UNITED STATES PATENT FHQE.
CHARLES STRIGKRODT, OF YORK, N. Y.
FAN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,706, dated January 24, 1862.
Application filed December 10, 1880. (N model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES STRIOKRODT, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fans, of which the following is a speci-' web by beingswung back to back or face to face.
Thevinvention relates more especially to improvements in the pivoted connection of the handles with the center disks of the web, so that the use of transverse pivot-pins which pass from one disk to the other through the fabric of the web may be done away with, and a simpler and cheaper pivot-connection of the fan-handles be obtained.
The invention consists of the combination of the web with two handles which are pivoted to center disks by means of end caps or mountings that are provided with inwardly-bent lugs having turnedup prongs, said prongs being sprung through holes of the disks equidistantly from the center of the same.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved fan, shown in closed position. Fig. 2 is a detail top view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail view of the blank from which the end cap or mounting of the handles is made.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents the web, and
B B the handles, of my improved fan. The
end folds of the web A are attached in the usual manner to the inside of the handles B, the handles being applied at their upper ends tocenter disks, 0, which cover the connection of the handle ends with the web. The handles B are pivoted to the center disks, (3, by means of end caps or mountings, D, which are arranged with lower fastening-lugs, a, and with upper connecting-lugs, b. The lower side lugs, a, as well as an end lug, (I, serve for attaching the cap or mounting D to the end of the bandle, while the upperlugs,-b, are bent inwardly at right angles t the main portion of the cap,
with the disks by means of one or more prongs, I). These prongs are stamped up from the body of the upper sidelugs, a, sprung through holes which are equidistantly from the center of the disks (3, and then bent over on the outside of the same, so as to form a simple and reliable pivot-connection therewith. By thus and serve to establish the pivotal connection connecting the handles with the disks not Having thus described my inventiou, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the web A and handles B B of a fan, the latter being provided with end caps or mountings, D, having inwardly-bent and pronged lugs, of center disks, 0, having holes equidistantly from the center, through which the prong or prongs are sprung, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. An end cap or mounting for fans, having lower fastening side lugs, a at, upper side lugs, b b, with one or more'bent-up prongs, and an end lug, (I, substantially as shown and described. I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as.
my invention 1 have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 26th day of November, 1880.
CHARLES STRIOKRODT.
