UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT B. HOUGH, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
FOOT-SCRAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 252,669, dated January 24, 1882.
Application tiled May 21, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT B. HOUGH, a resident of Erie, Erie county, Pennsylvania, and a citizen ef the United States, have invented new and useful Improvements in Foot Scrapers and Cleaners; and I do hereby deelare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and theletters or igures of rel'erence marked thereon.
My invention relates to foot-Scrapers with cleaning-brushes attached; and it consists in certainirnprovementsin the construction there of, which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings my device is shown as follows: v
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my foot scraper and cleaner' placed ina panprovided purposely therefor. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the pan through the legs thereof. Fig. 3 is a side view of my device, and shows the same attached to a doorstep without a pan. Fig.4 is a top view of the same, with parts of the brushes broken away to show thel construction below. The pan is not shown in this figure.
rIhe letters ofreference indicate parts as follows:
A is the pan, and d the rubber tips or feet set in the socket shaped legs.
B B B is the frame-work, of which B serves as a scraper, and has a foot guide Yor detlector, b, extending therefrom in the direction from which the foot enters the cleaning apparatus.
G C are the side or wing brushes, which are attached to pivoted spring-arms F, which are pivoted on the standards E, which spring up or rise from the part of the frame marked B.
G are the springs which operate the wingbrushes, and have their coils arranged within the standards E, which coils maybe of greater or less length, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
D is the brush which operates upon the bot- (No model.)
ively March 29, 1859, and April14, 1868, show,
both side and bottom brushes and the scraper and pan, and also show the side brushes constructed with springs. I therefore do not claim broadly any of these devices, no r do Iclaim a device having them all in combination.
My device is so constructed that it can bensed within a pan or attached to the floor or door-step. The deiiector b greatly assists the work of cleaning, as it raises the heel of the boot onto the scraper'. The rubber tips on the pan prevent it marring the iioor or making' a noise if moved (about.
What I claim as my invention is 1. In aboot cleaning' and scraping apparatus, the combination, with the bottom and side brushes, of the frame-work B B B, standards E E, with springs G G, and pivoted frames F F, the part B of said frame serving as a scraper, and being provided with a deiiector, b, and said frame B B B being adapted, substantially as show-n, to be attached to al pan or to a floor or door-step.
2. In afootcleanin g apparatus,a sole-scraper having' adelector, b, substantially as'and for thev purposes set forth.
1n testimony that I claim the foregoing l have hereunto set my hand this 2d day ot' May, 1881.
ROB'I. B. HOUGH.
