McCahan, Burlington, Iowa Application March 27, 1947 Serial No. 7 37,629 1 Claim. (o1. 9s -'79) My invention relates to draft controls and more closely to draft controls for vent pipes.
An object of my new invention is to provide heating, brooder houses, tank heaters, and the like.
I attain the objects of my invention by the device'described in this specification, recited in the claim, and shown in the drawings, wherein:
Figure l is a vertical half-section of my invention.
Figure 2 is a side view of my device shown with a wind vane.
I shall now describe my invention as I make reference to the drawings.
I find that this nondirectional down draft eliminator being shaped as it is, and made adjustable to permit a variation in the volume of vent draftv to be released, fromthe vent pipe is working most efi'iciently under tests which I am giving it and have been giving it to determine its serviceability.
Thus, in a careful study of the operating details of my device, it will be noted that I am providing for an upright vent pipe I, a cone shaped ca 2 which is adjustably supported over and about the top outlet end 3 of vent pipe I. This cone cap 2 is held in its adjustable operating position by an upright bolt 4 supported centrally by a cross plate 5 secured across the top of vent pipe I by a detachable top band 6 about the to 1 of vent pipe I.
This upright supporting bolt 4 preferably has screw threads 8 at its top on which threaded nut-lug 9 is threadably carried as an integral part of the top end 10 of cone cap 2, so that when desired, the outside top-nut ll above cone cap 2 on bolt 4 may be loosened and cone cap 2 may then be rotated to right or left to raise or lower the level of this cone cap 2 with the result that the space I2 between the inside wall l3 of cap 2 and the top end 1 of pipe I will be varied to suit the existing needs for increasingor decreasing the/volume of escaping air out of the vent pipe I. j
It will be noted that with this construction it will not make any difference which direction the windmay be blowing, for the operating effect will be the same, and a quick adjustment may be made in the level of cone cap 2 to vary the volume of outgoing vent air. 7
Flange I5 is shaped to define an annular, angular collar preferably welded to the lower inner surface of inverted cone top 2 in which position its inturned bottom edge provides a deflecting means which materially reduces the tendency for updrafts from the outside to retard the outgoing movement of the gases normally leaving a vent pipe.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A nondirectional down draft eliminator for vent pipes, comprising, a base clamping band adapted to detachably engage and encompass the top portion of a vent pipe, a cross bracket secured to said band and positioned to cross over the top of said vent pipe, an upright standard'threadably secured by its bottom end to said cross bracket over thevent pipe and provided with threads and nuts at its top end, a metallic cone threadably and adjustably supported by said top threads and between nuts meshing with said threads, and said cone thus suspended in a position to encompass said vent pipe top and provided with a bottom deflecting ring extending about the inner base of said cone with the inner edge of said ring turned to extend slightly inwardly.
