Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in water fountains for poultry.
'An object of this invention is to provide a fountain that is adjustable, automatic and will provide a constant supply of fresh water for poultry of all sizes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a fountain that will dispose of waste water, will heat the water to prevent freezing and will save time in the process of keeping the fountain sanitary.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fountain that is simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in operation and can be manufactured at a normal cost.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view partly broken away of an embodiment of the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof partly broken away.
Figure 3 is an elevational view partly broken away in full adjusted position.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on the line of Figure 1 and Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, the reference numeral I0 designates a circular ring having the outwardly extending base flange I2 and the inwardly extending flange I4 to which the circular plate I6 is secured by fasteners I8.
Mounted on the plate I6 is the lower circular section which is provided with the rolled upper peripheral edge 22, telescopically mounted on the lower section 20 is the intermediate section 24 having upper and lower peripheral rolled edges 26 and 28 respectively. The edge 28 engages the edge 22 on the lower section to limit the upward movement of the section 24. Telescopically mounted on the intermediate section 24 is the upper section 30 having the rolled lower peripheral edge 32 which contacts the edge 26 of the section 24 to limit the upward movement of the section 30, and the upper end of the section 30 is provided with the downwardly inclined annular flange 34 to receive the complimentary shaped flange 35 of the top 38 and the flanges are secured together by fasteners 40.
At the point of connection of the section 20 with the plate I6 a circular bracket 42 is provided which positioned in the opening which is secured to the plate by fasteners 44 and which retains the section 20 in'position on the plate by frictional engagement therewith.
Adjacent the lower section 20 the plate I6 is provided with an opening 84 to receive the water supply pipe 66 to which is connected by a coupling 68 the spiral tubing 10 which supplies water to the fountain.
The top 38 is dished at I2 to form the water or fountain receptacle. A valve casing 14 connected to the tubing 10 is formed in the top 38 and has a flat valve 15 therein which is controlled by the pivoted arm 19 of the float 80, which rests on the water in the dished portion I2 and controls the supply of water thereto by operation of the valve 16. r
The float is shaped as a horse shoe to accommodate the stand pipe 82 which is threadably mounted in the opening 84 in the center of the portion 12 and an annular flange 86 surrounding the opening 84 on the lower surface of the portion I2, supports the pipe 82 and threadably receives the extention 88 to the pipe therein and a washer 90 interposed between the pipe 82 and extention 88 provides a water tight joint.
Positioned in the stand pipe below the level of the portion 12 is the overflow outlet 92 which prevents water from overflowing the portion 1-2.
Surrounding the center of the portion I2 is the annular wire check guard 94 and a conical wire guard 06 having flanged ends 98 engage the periphery of the portion 12.
Surrounding the tubing I0 is the electrical heating element I00 connected to the junction box I02 provided with the control switch I04 and outlet cord I06 having the plug I08 on the end 3 thereof for connections to a source of electrical current.
In the position shown in Figure 1, the fountain can be used for young poultry as the poultry grows the sections 24 and 30 can be moved upward and retained in place by the latches which are designed for that purpose.
Thus the fountain is adapted for use in three positions. The heating element will prevent the water from" freezing and the waste: Water is disposed of as previously described.
It is believed that the operation and construction of the fountain will be obvious to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what. is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent .is:
1. A device. of the character described, comprising an adjustable. body, a base for said body, a top for said body providing fountain means, means for. supplying: water to said fountain means, and means for disposing of overflow from said fountain means.
2. The invention as in claim 1 wherein said body comprises lower intermediate and upper telescoping sections.
3. The invention as in claim 1 wherein means is provided for regulating the supply of water to said fountain means.
4. The invention as in claim 1 wherein means is provided. for heating said water supply.
5. The-invention as in claim 1- wherein means is provided for locking said body in adjusted positions.
