FLOUR-BOLT.
Speccaton of Letters Patent No. 25,256, dated August 30, 1859.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ELIAS GRAHAM and ISAAC N. PATTON, both of Elizabethtown, in the county of Hardin and State of Kentucky, have invented an Improvement in F leur-Bolts; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference mark thereon, in which, Figure l, represents a side view of the bolting reel showing our improvementattached to two of the arms thereof.
The object of our invention is to enable the miller to tighten the bolting cloth upon the reel to any degree of tension, not only in put-ting the cloth upon the reel, but to keep it tight after it has been put on, and run loose during the operation of bolting.
Our invention consists in an arrangement hereinafter described whereby the radial arms of the reel or rather, the ribs over which the cloth is stretched can be extended, thereby increasing` the diameter of the bolting reel and stretching the bolting cloth tight thereon and keeping it thus stretched as hereinafter set forth.
A, represents the shaft of the reel with radial arms B, B, extending out at right angles to it with their ends tenoned so as to fit loosely in mortises cut through the longitudinal ribs C C. Thus far the construction of the reel is in all respects similar to those in common use.

This operation increases the diameter of the reel and consequent-ly stretches the bolting cloth which is around the reel.
The operation is exceedingly simple and the parts are easily adjusted and the cloth kept as tight as is necessary, thereby making the bolt operate to a better advantage than with the present arrangement.

The combination of the wedged sliding ribs C, with the rods and screws for adjusting the same in the manner and for the purposes herein set forth.
