Description

(No Mode'k) w E. U. SGOVILLE.
Doon HANGER.
No. 25a-,527. y
Patented Jan; 17, 1882.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDIJAH U. SOOVILLE, OF MANLIUS, NEW- YORK.
DOOR-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 252,527, dated January 117, 1882.
Application filed November 10l 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH U. ScovrLLE, of Manlius, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Han gers, ot' which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a4 full, clear, and eX- act description.
This invention relates more particularly to the class ot' door-han gers which have a plainfaced sheave or carrying-wheel; and it consists essentially in the combination and arrangement of a hanger-strapl having a plainfaced sheave or carrying-wheeljournaled thereon, a plate sustained at the rear of the sheave' by the hanger-strap, and a guide-roller journaled on said back plate and engaging the rear ot' the track-rail, all as hereinafter more fully described, and specifically set forth in l the claims.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is a side Vview of a door-hanger provided with my im` provements. Fig. 2 is a vert-ical section of the same. Figs. 3 and 4 are side views, illustrating one of the means ot' connecting the guide roller to the back plate ofthe h'anger. Fig. 5
is a rear View of my improved door-hanger; and Fig. 6 illustrates modieationsin the. connection of the guideroller with the back plate or cap of the hanger.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A denotes the hanger strap or shank by which the door hanger is secured in the ordinary manner to the upper portion of the door to be hung. The upper end of said strap is provided with or formed into a circular head, B, which has a central hub, c, and a peripheral ange, d, which hub and flange are met by and titted to a similar hub, c', and ange d on a circular cap or back plate, C, which is secured tothe head B by a bolt, a, passing transversely through `'the said parts at thecenter of their afoiesaid hubs, and having a nut, n, on its end, as shown.
S represents the sheave or carry ing-whel of the hanger, said sheave haring a plain-faced tread, and being housed by the case formed by the head Band cap O, and being mounted either directly on the hubs c c or on anti-friction rollers r r, arranged around said hubs, as shown in the annexed drawings. The base ot' the head B and cap O is deprived of the peripheral ange, so as to produce in the bottom of the housing or case of the sheave an opening through which the tread of the sheave protrudes and is brought to bear on the track-rail T. The sheave S is guided on the track-rail by a roller, R, which may bejournaled either directly on the base of the back plate or cap, C, as illustrated in Fig. 6 of the drawings, or indirectly on the same, as shown in Figs. 2, 3, and 4, and in the manner hereinafter described, said roller being thus brought to bear against the rear face ot' the track-rail, at or near the upper edge thereof, and, in conjunction with the bearing of,l the hanger-strap, against the iront face of the track-rail,guiding the sheave on top of the said track-rail.
In order to facilitate the-molding and casting ofthe aforesaid parts, and also the repairs of the said guide-roller, I employ asupplemental back plate, D, which is tted into a recess, h, in the back of the cap or back plate- O, and detachably secured thereto by the bolt'a, before described,`said supplemental back plate having a downward-extending shank, Evthe lower extremity of which is provided with two bearings, in which is journaled the roller R, as best seen in Figs. 2 and 4 of the drawings.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the .hanger A B, cap G, inclosed sheave S, and bolt a, of the supplemental plate'D, secured to the cap by the bolt a, and having journaled on its lower end the roller R, arranged to engage the up per rear edge of the track, substantially as shown.
2. In combination'with the hanger strap A, provided with the head B, the sheave S, and bolt a, the cap O, provided with the recess h, and the supplemental plate D, itted to said recess, and having the downward-extended shank E, with the roller It journaled thereon and brought to bear against the rear upper edge of the track, substantially as described and shown.
In testimonywhereofI havehereunto signed my name and affixed my seal, in the presence of two attesting witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, this 8th day of November, lSSl.
