aegonos smnnnnon some FASTENERS; Q iat ea Damask ng.- Val ey... Application February 1 5, 1946; Serial No. 64 71881,: 2 than. an-1o.
This. invention relates; in general to. slide fl as. teners, and more. particularly. to. the slider ele; ment which. constitutes. the. opening. and-. closing; member of such fasteners.
An important object of. my-inizention. is toproe. vide a. slider for fasteners oiathetype mentioned with a. locking. element which firmly, secures the slider in any. adjusted. position and yet permits; the ready release. of the. locking element by. the mere. operation. of the-pull: tab. associated: with the. slider Another important; object of my invention is to. provide a slider which is separable. or adjustable; to permit easy IGIIIQVfiJKOf cloth or other material: that may be lodged: between the guide. plates at the slider.
The novel features characteristic of: my inven tion. are set forth with particularity in. the appended claims. The invention itself; however,
both as to its construction and mode of operation together with other objects-and advantages thereof; will best be understood by reierence to the following description taken incennection with the accompanying; drawing in which:
Fig. 1 is a view; in front elevation, on an enlarged scale, of; a portion ofa slide fastener embodving features or my; invention;
Fig. 2 is an exploded view, inperspective, show ing the component parts which constitute the slider according to my invention;
Fig. 3 is a side elevational; view oi the slider removed from the fastener and showing the slider in ke or adii stedpos t on;
Fig. 4 is a view similar to that of Fig. 3 but showing the sliderin unlockedposition; and
Fig. 5 shows a closed portion of the slide fastenerl. with the-slider removed, tobetter show the position of the locking prongs ordetents inrelan the astener.- lemee e.
Referring first to Fig. 1, the slide fastener co n; prises a pair of tapes or stringers I, which are. provided along. their opposed fastening edgee with the. usual beaded or corded edges 1 on which are mounted a plurality of fastener elements 3.. These. are. of; conventional type and comprise heads. having interlocking means, such as, pro; jections on the upper side and recesses on the lower side, and having also outwardly extending jaws 4 which are clamped on the beaded edges 2. The interlocking elements 3 are engaged or disengaged in a well-known manner by means of a suitable slider member generally designated 5.
Referring now to the remaining figures of the drawing, the slider 5 is seen to comprise a lower guide plate 6 provided with upwardly extending de flan es. t and: pper uide the t 2 2 lelil with downwe dm x nding side an es; 9s. he pwen ui e plate isifut liermended atone d] w h int ral-lv-tonmed1= wed-e es aoecl.
member itwhichsetresltoisepara e or disen a e themterlnck ne fastener eleme ts. u wardly extendine mom l e wedse fienata lim Lila threaded stud: lil-l rigidly retained The .upp rui e plate. aisformed with a app e.
formed with a ring-shaped part 24' which meansot a'ooi l 2 9 surrounding the post at and interposedbetween guide plate 8' and; ring N, theloehi-ng member W is urged, in the. illustrated position of the pull tab, to its locked position whereat. the detents 20, .2! extend through their respective apertures 22, 23 in the upper guide plate. As shown in Fig. 5, the pointed ends of the detents penetrate into the corded edges 2 of the stringers to provide positive locking means of the slider 5 with respect to the fastener.
In order to disengage the locking member to enable the slider to be moved in either direction, preparatory to effecting engagement or disengagement of the interlocking elements 3 of the fastener, the pull tab 26 is moved upwardly to a substantially vertical position, as shown in Fig. 4, and in so doing the locking member [6 is rocked about its pivotal point I! to the raised position shown by the camming action of the pull tab armextensions. 21, 27. on, the locking member ring 24. The slide is now free to be moved to a new position along the fastener, and upon the release of the pull tab, the action of coil spring 29 is such.
that the locking member and the pull tab are re- %turned to their respective positions as shown in ,Fig. 3. As often happens with slide fasteners of the general type herein described,.ithe.cloth or. other material to which the stringers are attached,
becomes lodged between ,lthe upper and lower guide plates, or between the fastener elements,
so that-movement of the slider-is difiicult and' I sometimes impossible. With a slide member embodying my present'invention'iit is a simple matter to overcome the above mentioned diffrculty.v One or two turns of the post by means of the pull tab 26 causes a sufilcient separation between the upper and lower guide plates to effect easy removal of the lodged material; after which the guide plates are returned to their normal operative positions by turning the post in the opposite direction. In extreme cases the guide plates may be completely separated from each other and then reassembled for use in the usual manner. l
Itisbelieved that the constructionand opera ation, as well as the advantages of my improved locking and separable slider,,will be. apparent,
from the foregoing detailed description. Itwill 1 also. be. apparent. that while I haveshown. and
described my., invention in a. preferred. form,v changes and modifications may be made; inithe.
structure, disclosed withoutmdeparting. from the spiritpf the invention,,.assought to be defined.
in theffollowing claims.
