1. f This invention relates to card mounts, more particularlyhtri mounts for supporting photo graphs and pictures in display position, and to the method for making such mounts.

Heretofore corner clips have been attached to display mount bodies to formfcornerpockets adapted to receive and hold the corners of the display material. "These prior constructions involved additionalparts and additional manufacturing operations in their fabrication. Furthermore, since the corner clips were superimposed elements, the mounts so constructed were not well adapted to stackin one on the other duringstorage orshipment. t

It. is, thereforegthe purpose to provide herein a. display mount which avoids the previous ob jeotions and to this end the invention provides amount structurewhich has provided as an integral part thereof card mounting pockets .togather with card corner receiving slots, resultingin. a simple structure of fewer parts and one capable of even stacking during storage and shipment.

The flexible covering material [4 is preferably adhesively afixed to the external surfacesdf the base board and the facial board andiwhen this operation is performed by machine methods, the entire surface between the flexible covering material and the encasedboards is subjectedt' the gluing operation. The corner slots] l8 ai conveniently cut in the covering material prior to the cover material gluing operation, and itis desirable toform theslots in the covering material so thatthey will fall on a line somewhat outwardly of the diagonal corner line 22;..thereby avoiding adhesion of the corner pocket .sl'lotzarea to the edge 22 of the facial board. As best seen in Fig. 1;, the mount is provided with corner pockets at each of its four corners and the slots 18 are in this form diagonally arranged thereby providing a slot and corner pocket for eachof the four cornersof a card to be mounted. It will be appreciated, however, that the structure is applicable to supports adapted to mount only two corners of a card, for example.

The method by which the mount herein is formed may be somewhat varied, but in the preferred practice a base board In and a facial board I2 are formed of substantially the same size and outline. Thereafter, the facial board I2 is cut away at spaced points along its margin, specifically herein shown as along the diagonal lines 22 at the corners thereof. Then the two boards the are assembled in face-to-face relationship. When the boards are thus assembled they are run through a wrapping machine which adhesively afiixes the fiexible covering material l4 about the entire external surface of the boards and I2. Ordinarily, the entire surface of the covering material that lies in contact with the exposed board face is covered with adhesive, little effort being made to avoid the application of adhesive tothe portions of the covering material that overlies the corners of the assembled boards. Before the covering material M has been attached as indicated, slots, herein specifically shown as the diagonal slots I8, are formed in the covering material at such predetermined positions that they will lie over the interstitial space formed by the cut off corners in the facial board thereby forming mounting pockets in the face of the mount. The practice of the method may also include a further processing step for finishing the mount as by subjecting the same to the pressure of a binders wringer for smoothing out any wrinkles that may appear on the exposed surfaces. 'It is possible to vary the method by forming the corner slots I8 in the covering material 14 after the material is adhesively attached to the face of the boards 10 and 12 although in the preferred practice of the invention these slots are formed in the covering material before the covering material has been adhesively attached to the boards. Even though the slots are formed .before the covering material is applied to the base boards, the covering material effectively traps a certain amount of air between its inner face and the back board at the point where the "'1. A card mount comprising a base board, a facial board overlying said base board, a flexible covering material fixed to'and extending over the external surfaces of said boards, said facial board having four cut away portions at spaced points defining the corners of a substantially rectangular area and forming pockets under said covering material, and a slot in said covering material 4 over each of said cut away portions adapted to receive the corners of a card to be mounted.

A picture mount comprising a substantially rectangular base board, a substantially rectangular facial board overlying said base board, a flexible covering material fixed to and extending over the external surfaces of said boards, said facial board having cut away portions at the four corners thereof thereby forming pockets under said covering material, and a slot in said covering material over each of said cut away portions adapted to receive the corners of a card to be mounted.

A card mount comprising a substantially rectangular base board, a substantially rectangular facial board overlying said base board, a flexible covering material fixed to and extending over the external surfaces of said boards, said facial board having the corners thereof cut away along a diagonal line thereby forming pockets under said covering material, and a diagonal slot in said covering material substantially parallel with each of said diagonally cut corner edges in said facial board adapted to receive the corners of a card to be mounted.

5. The method of making card mounts which comprises forming a base board and a facial board Of substantially the same outline and size, cutting away marginal portions of the facial board at spaced points, assembling said boards in face-to-face relationship, forming slots in a flexible covering material at points therein corresponding to the cut away marginal portions of said facial board, adhesively afilxing said flexible covering material about the entire external surface of said boards with the slots therein overlying said cut away marginal portions of said facial board, thereby forming mounting pockets in the face of said mount.

6. The method of making card mounts which comprises forming a rectangular base board and a facial board of substantially the same size and outline, cutting away the corners of the facial board, assembling said boards in face-to-face relationship, forming slots in a flexible covering material at points therein corresponding to the cut away corners of said facial board, adhesively afiixing said flexible covering material about the entire external surfaces of said boards with the slots therein arranged along a line substantially parallel to the corner cuts of said facial board, thereby forming mounting pockets in the face of said mount.
