` l1 My invention relatesto `drainsand more jpartitjularly to `drains for cow `stable `gutters. Theobject of myinvention is toprovide a drain forcow stable guttersadapt'ed to drain the water from the solid droppingswinl the gutter, thereby` facilitating the cleaning of the gutters andpreventing soiling of the. cattle, by rbeing `spla'shed with iiquidsin the gutter. u u
Another object of` my invention to provide a drain for cow `stable gutters having an `auxiliary onseoondary drain connected therewithlto dr`a`i`n th'e liquid `from the `solids in the gutter, if the mainfdrainshould get clogged.
yA further `cbjectof myinvention is 4to provide a" rdrain for` cow stable gutters adapted to be l'iingedly attached to the driveway side ofthe gutterpso that the entire drain unitcan be pivoted ont "of `the `gutter for cleaning purposes.
"Other "objects of `my inventionumay appear in the followingspecication describing my invention with reference to the accompanying drawing illustrating a preferred embodiment of my invention.
wIt i'slowever 2to 'be understood, that my invention is not to be limited or restricted to the exact construction and combination of parts described in the specification and shown, in the drawing, but that `such changes and modifications can be inade, which fallwithin thes'cope of the claims appended hereto.
"Fdgure 1 is a plan view of a,pluralityfof [cow stalls provided with a gutter drain according to my invention.
Figure -2 is a sectional View` taken on line 2-2 in Figure 1.
`Figure 3` is a sectional view` taken on line-33 in;-Figure 1, Athe 'maindrain plateabeing` shown as partly broken away, to show the secondary drain plate, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view similar to Figure 2 illustrating a modification of the drain construction according to my invention, in which the secondary drain plate is permanently embedded in the bottom of the gutter.
Referring now in detail to the drawing a gutter I is arranged between the floor Il of the cow stalls and the floor I3 of the driveway in a cow barn. The bottom I4 of the gutter I 0 slopes from the stall side toward the driveway side, as clearly shown in Figures 2 and 4.
A plurality of angular hinge members t5 are rmly fastened onto the edge of the gutter I0 on the driveway side.
*t foams. (Pol. 11s- 15) 2 l A main drain plate I6 has on its upperedge another iplate element Il l extending at fright angles tothe drain plate and on this plate element I l l-a flange I 3 is `formed extendingat right 'angles 5 to said -elementand `in the same direction as `the main drain plate |6.` Tliedrainfplate unit is hingedlyattachedto tlie angular hinge members I5 so that the main drain plate I G extends downwardly into the gutter Ill as shown in Figures 2 and 4. This main drain plate 5is providedwith a plurality of perforations, which are preferably veryysmall and arranged: close together so as to permit "the liquid contents I or the gutter to `drain enoughV the-maintient I5 plate I6 into fthe part of the gutter il) adjacent" the-"driveway.` The solidlp'arts of `the gutter con--` tents remain in the gutter part betweenthe main drain plate l and the stalls.

Preferablyfthecut-outsZI have the shapeofan in-w.
verted AV, as shown in Figure 3.
As shown in Figure '4; illustrating 'aunodiiicaJ` tionof` the drain construction according Ito my" inventio'ny a `secondary `drain plate 22 lprovided with `cut-outs 2-3 inits lower "edge ispermanentlyembedded in theconcrete, `forming the b'ottoirrld` of the gutter"I"0\, as in'dicated'at 2li in `Figure 411 *7" The cutoutsvZB` in this plate l22 are also "sha-peti like ianA inverted V,` andfextend far enough up-v` will rest on the floor I3 of the driveway, where it can be cleaned easily. After that it is swung back into working position.
By the use of a gutter drain as described above, the gutter can be cleaned very easily, and splashing of the gutter contents is practically eliminated entirely.
Like all gutters the gutter ID described above is constructed to drain into a collecting basin or the like located outside the barn.
Having described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A barn drain construction comprising a gutter arranged between the stalls and the driveway in the barn and sloping to drain out of the barn including a bottom in the gutter sloping downwardly from the stable side to the drive way side, and a main drain plate removably arranged in the gutter and extendingr longitudinally thereof, and being provided with a plurality or" perforations therein,` a plate element `formed on the upper edge of the main drain plate and extending at right angles thereto, a flange on the edge of the plate element extending downwardly at .i
right angles thereto and hingedly fastened onto the drive way edge of the gutter, and a secondary drain plate having a plurality of cutouts 'in its lower edge and arranged longitudinally of the gutter between the main drain plate and the drive way side wall of the gutter, and permanently embedded in the bottom of the gutter. 2. A barn drain structure Acomprising a gutter, a main strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between the sides of said gutter for straining liquid from a mass of solid and liquid matter placed in said gutter at one side of said strainer plate, and a secondary strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between said main strainer and the side of the gutter opposite that in which the mass of solid and liquid matter is placed.
3. A barn drain structure comprising a gutter, a main strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between the sides of said gutter for straining liquid from a mass of solid and liquid matter placed in said gutter at one side of said strainer plate, and a secondary strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between said main strainer and the side of the gutter opposite that in which the mass of solid and liquid matter is placed, said secondary strainer comprising a longitudinally elongated vertical plate formed with relatively large longitudinally spaced openings in the lower part thereof. Y y
4. A barn drain structure comprising a gutter, a main strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between the sides of said gutter for straining liquid from a mass of solid and liquid matter placed in said gutter at one side of said strainer plate, and a secondary strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between said main strainerl and the side of the gutter opposite that in which the mass of solid and liquid matter is placed, said secondary strainer comprising a longitudinally elongated vertical plate formed with relatively large longitudinally spaced openings in the lower part thereof, the upper edge of said secondary strainer 4 plate having a portion supportably connected to a portion of said main strainer plate, whereby said main and secondary strainer plates form a strainer assembly.
5. A barn drain structure comprising a gutter, a main strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located between the sides of said gutter for straining liquid from a mass of solid and liquid matter placed in said gutter at one side of said strainer plate, and a secondary strainer positioned longitudinally in said gutter and located Ibetween said main strainer and the side of the gutter opposite that in which the mass of solid and liquid matter is placed, said secondary strainer comprising a longitudinally elongated vertical plate formed with relatively large longitudinally spaced openings in the lower part thereof, said secondary strainer plate having a lower portion supportably mounted on the bottom of the gutter.
6. A barn drain structure comprising a gutter, a main strainer positioned longitudinally in .said gutter and located between the sides of said gut,-`v ter for straining liquid from a mass of solid and liquid matter placed in said gutter at one sideoisaid strainer plate, and a secondary strainen positioned longitudinally in said gutterv and lo-` cated between said main strainer and the `Aside of the gutter opposite that in whichA themass ofr solid and liquid matter is placed, said secondary strainer comprising a longitudinally elongated vertical plate formed withrelatively large longie., tudinally spaced openings in the .lower partz thereof, the upper edge ofl said secondary strainer` plate having aportion supportably connected to a portion of said main strainer plate, whereby saidr main and secondary strainer plates form a strainer assembly,
the gutter, whereby said strainer assembly canI be swung upwardly out of the gutter.
