(01. 1289-57) This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in massage or skin beautifier implements for use in connection with the application of cleansing and beauty creams so'that they may reach into the full depth of the pores to do the most good for beautifying treatments.

Ithas for one of its objects to provide a device of this character which is so designed and constructed as to provide a thermo-applicator which is responsive to heat or cold to accordingly and readily adapt the device to either hot or cold beautifying treatments for conditioning the skin and stimulating circulation in the capillaries, as well as to create a compression and expanding pore action on the skin to effect the discharge of the secretions and the drawing in or penetration of the cream therein to cleanse and soften the skin tissue.

Another object of the invention is to provide a thermo-responsive massage implement for facial and other treatments which is simple, compact and inexpensive in construction, and wherein the applicator is in the form of a roll-like element shaped to fit the contours of the face, neck, etc., and so mounted on the implement handle as to be readily removed from and reversed thereon.

Other features of the invention reside in the construction and arrangement of the parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the beautifying implement embodying my invention. Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section thereof taken on line 2-2, Figure 3. Figure 3 is a cross section taken on line 3-3, Figure 1. Figure 4 is a front view of the journal portion of the implement. Figure 5 is a sectional elevation of a modified form of the invention.

Referring to the preferred embodiment of my invention shown in Figures 1-3 inclusive, ill indicates the shank of the implement which may be made of stainless steel or like material and which is shaped at one end as shown, to provide a loop-like handle I I, while its opposite end terminates in a bearing stem or journal l2 on which the applicator I3 is removably mounted. This applicator is in the form of a roller-like element made of aluminum or like material which is conductive to heat or cold and whose exterior or massaging face is generally convex in shape to effectually adapt it to the various contours of the face, neck, throat, chin, cheeks, nose and eye sockets. Extending axially through this applicator roll is a bearing opening l4 through which the journal 12 removably extends, and at its ends such roll is beveled or recessed'to provide axially-disposed cavities or depressions I5. In the operative position of the roll, the end of the journal is disposed adjacent to the bottom of the companion roll-cavity, thereby leaving the convexly curved end edges of the roll fully exposed for massaging purposes. This roll is of uniform shape at its ends and may be reversibly mounted on the journal.

For the purpose of removably retaining the applicator roll on the journal l2, the latter is provided with a central slot [6 providing a yieldable or contractible fork and its outer end, at diametrically opposite sides of the slot, is provided with inwardly facing thrust shoulders I! providing an expandable head which serves to normally retain the roll on the journal. Across the slot of the journal, these shoulders are milled away to permit the ready application and removal of the roll to and from the journal and at its lower end the latter has an outwardly-facing thrust shoulder I8. By this construction the applicator roll may be readily slipped on and off the journal in a snap-like fashion, the journal being free to compress and expand during such operations, and any end thrust of the roll is prevented by the shoulders H, l 8.

As shown in the drawings, the journal 12 is preferably disposed at an obtuse angle to the handle II to permit easy and ready access to all contours of the face.

In the modified form of the invention shown in Figure 5, the handle 20 is made of a die casting andthe journal 2| has a shank 22 which is secured by a press fit into the handle.

In effecting treatments with this implement, the face is first treated with a beauty cream and the thermo-roll of the applicator is immersed in a vessel of hot water for such time as may be required to heat it to the temperature desired. It is then dried and rolled back and forth over the parts to be treated to gently massage and squeeze out pore secretions. This results in the massaging heat treatment opening the pores of the skin, allowing the cream to attain the penetration desired to effectually clean and soften any hardened skin tissue at the base of the underskin and. in the area where lines and wrinkles have a tendency to form. Thereafter, any traces of cream on the skin are wiped off and the thermo-roll is then chilled by dipping it into cold water and then worked over the face in a similar massaging fashion to close the pores of the skin, stimulate circulation in the tiny capillary veins, and deliver vital nourishment to the skin tissue. This treatment is very efiective and it can be performed in a minimum period of time.

I claim as my invention:
