Application May 21, 1948, Serial No. 28,310
object of the present invention is to provide av device for holding electric irons and the cords therefor in a conveniently accessible position.
Another important object of the present invention is to provide a combination electric iron and electric cord holder that is quickly and readily constructed from a single blank of material to provide a neat and attractive article for use.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an iron holder including a support and novel and improved means for slidably engaging and retaining an iron relative to the support to facilitate the safe positioning of the same when not in use or when heated.
A still further aim of the present invention ls to provide an iron and iron cord holder that is extremely small and compact in structure, simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more .fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder constructed in accordance with the present invention, and showing an electric iron and cord applied thereto;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially through the center of Figure 1, and showing the iron and cord removed therefrom; and
Figure 3 is a transverse horizontal sectional view of the present invention taken substantially on the plane of section line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawings in detail,
wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I represents an elongated base plate or rear wall of any suitable material the central portion of which is turned outwardly to provide a pair of overlapping extensions I2 and I4 that form an upper support.
Integrally formed with the upper portion of the base plate I0, is a pair of spaced parallel side walls I6 and I6 the free forward edges of which are turned inwardly toward each other to provide a pair of bearing or retainer flanges 20 and 22 that are preferably spaced parallel to thebase plate IIJ.
(Cl. 24S-117.1)
Projecting from the lower transverse edges 24 of the side walls I6 and I8, is a pair of bracing tongues 26 that are turned inwardly to bear against the lower face of the lower extension I4. These tongues may be rigidly attached to the extension I4 to add further rigidity to the holder if desired.
The lower end portion of the base plate I0 is turned outwardly as at 28 to provide a lower support 30 having its outer extremity turned upwardly to provide a forward wall 32 the free extremity 34 of which is folded upon itself, as shown in Figures 1 and 2 of the drawings.
Integrally formed with the lower portion of the base plate I0 is a lower pair of spaced parallel side walls 36 and 38 that engage the side edges of the support 30 and forward wall 32 to cooperate with the support 30, wall 32 and plate l0 to form a compartment 40.
The forward connected ends of the extensions I4 and I6 are turned upwardly to provide a forward retaining iiange or Wall 42 that engages the outer faces of the flanges 20.
Removably secured to the rear face of the base plate I0 by fasteners or the like 44 is a plurality of resilient feet 46 that bear against a supporting structure on which the present holder is applied, it being noted that the upper portion of the plate I0 is formed with an opening 48 that receives a suitable fastener for engaging a structure ele ment.
Suitably fixed to the inner faces of the base plate I Il, the side walls I6 and .flanges 20, is a preferably screen unit 50 having fa plastic backing52.
In practical use of the present invention, an electric iron 54 is slid downwardly between the side walls I6 and I8, and flanges 26 and plate I0, so that the iron 54 will be supported on the extensions I 4 and I6.
The electric cord 56 for thel iron 54 is placed in the compartment 40, as shown best in Figure 1 of the drawings.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim` Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
An electric iron holder comprising an elongated plate, a support integrally formed with said plate intermediate the ends thereof, a further support integrally formed at one end of said plate and spaced relative to said :first-mentioned support, means carried by said plate for bracing said rst support, xneansnintegrally formed with said plate for retainingf'an Viron inl position ori'said iirst.v
support, and a pair of side members carried by said plate and cooperating with said further.
support and said plate to provide a cord-receiving compartment, said bracing means includes a pair 4 of ears integrally formed with said plate and disposed beneath and against said first support.
