TOWEL HOLDER Filed Oct. 2, 1946 Inventor 'flal id Ho (10112775 M Patented July 4, 1950 Application October 2, 1946, Serial No. 700,657
4 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in towel holders and more particularly to a device which can easily and quickly be attached to a supporting structure and affords a means for securely holding a towel or the like, merely by inserting a corner of a towel inwardly of said device.
Another important feature of this invention is to provide a device of this character which occupies little space and is neat and attractive in appearance.
A further important feature of this invention is to provide a device of the character referred to that is efficient and reliable in operation, relatively cheap to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure '1 is a front elevational view of the invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof taken on a line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the invention, and
Figure 4 is a rear elevational view of the channel-shaped retaining ring.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherein, for the purpose of illustration, I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 represents a metal case having window openings 6 in the sides thereof for the ventilation of said case.
The rear edge I of said case is provided with a suitable number of outwardly extending apertured tongues B for attaching said case to a supporting structure.
The forward face of said case is provided with an annular opening 9, the edges of said opening extending inwardly to form a recess H and with the inner edge of the recess bent to form a radially inwardly extending flange I2.
Punched in flange l2 are a suitable number of slots [3 said slots adapted to receive the tongues l4 formed on the outer circumferential edge l5 of a channel shaped retaining ring [6, said tongues being bent inwardly against the inner surface of flange [2 after insertion in said slots so that ring [6 will be held tightly in recess H as shown in Figure 2.
Held in ring l6 so that the inner circumferential edges I! of said ring l6 bear against its outer surfaces is a circular rubber disc I8 having three slits H] which radiate outwardly from a central opening 20 as shown in Figure 1.
In use, the device is secured to a wall or like surface and when it is desired to suspend a towel from said device, one end portion of the towel 2| is pushed into disc l8 which deforms due to its slitted portion and grips the inserted end portion of the towel. By merely pulling the towel outwardly said towel is removed from the disc.
The ends of the slits I9 are formed with circular openings 22 to prevent ripping of the material.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim:
1. A towel holder comprising a case, means carried by the case for securing the same to a supporting structure, said case having an annular recess in its front surface, said recess including an inner flat wall having a central opening, a retaining ring secured in said recess, and a rubber disc secured in said recess by said retaining ring and having a slit therein adapted to receive the corner of a towel.
2. A towel holder comprising a case, means carried by the case for securing the same to a supporting structure, said case having an annular recess in its front surface and having a central opening, an internal flange at the edges of said opening and having slots therein, a retaining ring positioned in said recess, bendable tongues on the retaining ring engaged in the slots behind the flange, and a rubber disc clamped between the flange and the retaining ring and having a slit therein to receive the corner of a towel.
3. A towel holder comprisin a case, means carried by the case for securing the same to a supporting structure, said case having an annular recess in its front surface and having a central opening, an internal flange at the edges of said opening and having slots therein, a channel shaped retaining ring positioned in said recess, bendable tongues on the outer edge of the REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
