into-compact form. so that straps used to fasten f the device ini position when used as a body covering may be used as a shoulder strap for conveniently carrying the device and the bag when so containing the folded and rolled Wrap or blanket may be used as a cushion or pillow.
The invention also comprehends an article such as speciedin which the wrap or blanket has the bag attached thereto and the ends ofthe bag are formed of strips which are passed through loops on the blanket at each side of the hood so that the opposite ends of the blanket may be folded overy the. shoulders andaround.' the body and fastenedrby thestrips or when the device isnot in use, the strips are disengagedsfrorn the loops and the blanket compactly folded and moved into the hood so that the strips may be tied together and arranged over a -shoulder to carry the device.
The invention alsovhas for its object the provision of a combined apparel article of the nature set forth which may be constructed of a few simple parts or blanks sewed together and economically manufactured and sold in quantity.
To the foregoing objects, and others which may hereinafter more fully appear, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more specifically referred to and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modiiications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of the combined hood robe and self-carrier opened out for use as an article of apparel.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the hody of the wrap or blanket folded in position to be rolled and placed in the hood as a storage bag or pocket.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view of the hood taken on the line A-d of Figure l` Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of the device when thel wrapor blanketis-foldedinto the hood for carrying purposes.
Figure 6 is .'avfragmentary sectional view ytaken on the lline-I--Iifof Figure 1. Y
Referring to the ydrawings in-detail, they device/is` shown as-` comprising; an elongated rectangularl wrap or blanket body I0 whichV isi somewhat longer than` high or- Wder'than it. isr deep? such as 62 wide and 51'" high or; deep; orv other suit yable size. At the centerv of the top edgey I'I,1 a pocket-like hood I5l is lprovided'xto-A project' from.: saidedge.
This *hoodY comprises z a rectangular-wool orfother blank- I6 secured along one end tothetop edgel ofv theV body I0 as at. The lining 20 may comprise two sections folded inwardly at the ends as indicated at 24 and stitched together at their edges as indicated at 25 within the ends of the bag or pocket forming the hood I5 adjacent the portions of the strips 2| which are attached to the opposite edges of the blank I6.
The strips 2l are of considerable length and extend from the lower open side or edge 2B of the hood, the back of which is attached to the top edge I'I of the body I0 as at X, previously described, leaving the hood projecting over or beyond the inside of said body II). At the outside of the body Il), the latter is provided with loops 21 which may also be of woven cloth or otherwise and stitched at their ends to the body Ill as indicated at 28 so that the extended ends of the strips 2| may be passed through these loops in the manner shown in Figure l of the drawings whereby when the hood is placed over the head, the upper corners of the body I0 may be folded downwardly and inwardly over the shoulders and the ends of the body I0 folded or overlapped around the front of the body and fastened by tying the free end of the strips 2I so as to form a body covering or wrap to protect the wearer from cold and inclement weather as well as permitting the device to be quickly put l on or taken off. In the sense described, in addition to the hood providing a head covering which extends entirely over the head and around the neck, the body l forms a blanket or wrap around the body and may extend downwardly any den sired distance, depending upon the height or depth of the body l0. When the device is not in use, the end portions of the body l'0 may be folded in the manner shown in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings by rst slipping the strips or ties 2| out of the loops 21, the ends being rst folded l or pocket formed by the hood in the manner l shown in Figure 5 of the drawings.
This provides a Very compact arrangement whereby the device serves as a self-carrier, in which the strips f 2| may be tied together at their free ends and arrangedover a shoulder at one side of the body or across the body in the same manner asa shoulder bag for convenient carrying. Also when the body or blanket I'll is arranged within the bag or pocket forming the hood l5, it may also serve as a seat cushion or pillow. However, it may be unfolded by simply pulling or removing the body from within the bag or pocket formed by the hood and quickly thrown over the body after first extending the strips or straps 2l through the loops 21, thus providing a proficient article of apparel forming a hood and robe such as for use by football players or other athletes,
or even spectators, as protection against cold and inclement weather.
I claim: 1. A combined hood, robe and self-carrier comprising an elongated body, `a hood secured intermediately to the top edge of the body and having elongated strips forming the ends thereof and extending beyond the hood where secured to the body with the hood open toward the inside of the body, loops secured on the outside of said body adjacent said top edge in which said strips engage to secure the body in folded position over a person, and means whereby said body may be folded in opposite directions and stored in the hood said hood forming a self-carrier for the device and the strips upon release from said loops may be tied together to form a shoulder strap for said self-carrier.
2. A combined hood, robe and self-carrier comprising an elongated substantially rectangular blanket wider than high, a hood comprising a blank folded on itself and secured at one end to the top edge of the blanket intermediately of the ends of the latter so that the hood projects over the inside of the blanket, strips securing the folded over side edges of said blank together and extending a considerable distance beyond the free end thereof, loops secured to the outside of the blanket in spaced relation to the ends of the hood through which said strips are adapted to be extended so that the upper corners of the blanket may be folded over the shoulders and body of a person when the hood is applied over the head and tied to fasten the ends of the blanket around the front of the person, said' blanket being adapted to be folded at its end portions beyond each end of the hood to a width Vsubstantially equal to the width of the hood so as to be rolled and placed within the hood to form a container therefor with the strips displaced from the loops and tied together at their free ends to form a shoulder strap and self-carrier for the device.
