INV ENTDRI N. PETERS. Pholn-Lilhogmplm. Washlnginn. n c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIQE.
THOMAS W. FEELEY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
SLEEVE-BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,033, dated December 20, 1881.
Application filed October 3, 1881.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS W. FEELEY,of the cityand county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Sleeve-Buttons; and I declare the following to be a specification thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.
Like letters indicate like parts.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of the button on the line no of Fig. 2, showing the post and shoe in elevation. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on line 2 of Fig. 1.
My invention relates to non-separable buttons; and it consists of a tilting shoe pivoted to the post and held in the desired position by a block upon the under side of said shoe engaging with an upright spring within the post.
The button-front A has a rectangular hollow post, B. Aflat spring, C,is set uprightly within the post B,and is fastened therein by being pinched in, as shown at a. The upper or free end of the spring 0 is flush or even with the top of the post B.
The shoe D is elliptical in form. A square- (Model.)
in Fig. 2. The shoe is tilted, as shownin Fig. 2, to enter the button-hole, and when inserted is tipped down parallel with the button-front, as indicated in dotted lines. v
I am aware that a non-separable button has been heretofore made in which a tilting shoe is provided with aslotted plate having atongue adapted to engage with and produce a lateral pressure nearthe end of acnrved spring, which is provided with projections, bymcans of which it is attached to a slotted post secured to the back plate of the button-front. This, however, I do not claim; but
What I claim as a novel and useful invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A non separable button consisting of the button-front A, having a rectangular hollow post, B, a flat spring, 0, secured uprightly in said post, and a tilting shoe, D, having upon its inner side a block, E, pivoted to the post antl engaging with the spring, whereby said shoe is adapted to be turned and secured at a right angle with the button-front, substantially as shown and described.
THOMAS W. FEELEY.
