TILE STAND AND SUPPORT. v No. 251,029. Patented Dec. 220.1881.
Fug/X \xwemhv UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE D. COREY, OF LOWELL, MASSACHUSETTS.
TILE STAND AND SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 251,029, dated December 20, 1881.
Application filed July 11, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. COREY, of the city of Lowell, county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Tile Stand and Support, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to tiles which are used to support other objects, and which it may at other times be desired to have supported in such a positionfthat their ornamented top surfaces will be made conspicuous, and its objects are to construct the tile so as to make it readily usable for either of these purposes. I accomplish these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is-a back elevation of my device, and Fig. 2 a side elevation.
A is an ornamental tile.
a a mare feet, made of other material than that forming the tile, inserted into holes made part way through the tile from the under side. Thesefeet are cemented into their places in the tile, and two of them are provided with transverse openings, into which the ends b b ofthe back support, B, enter.
B is a back support formed of a wire bent in the form shown in the figure, so that the perpendicular distance between the ends I) b and the middle of the curve or bight of the wire shall be about the width of the tile. After being so bentlthe ends can be sprung together and inserted in the openings prepared to receive them in the feet a. a, when by the resiliency of the wire they will be retained in place therein.
When it is desired to use the tile as a stand to support articles upon, the back support is swung in between the feet a a against the tile, and the stand placed upon them, when it will rest entirely upon the feet and afford a proper support to whatever article may be placed upon it.
When it is desired to place the tile in an upright or inclined position the back support is swung away fronrthe surface of the tile and the tile placed upon its edge and supported, as shown in Fig. 2, by the back support, B.
By this construction and arrangement, at a. very trifling cost I produce adevice which supplies the place of the tile easel, while equally available for tile stand to support hot dishes or other articles upon.
\Vhat I claim as new and of my invention is- 1. A tile, A, provided with insertedfeet a a and a back support, B, substantially as described.
2. In combination with a tile stand, an adjustable back support, substantially as described.
GEORGE D. COREY.
