1 Claim. A l
This invention relates to a mounting for a compass, which is particularly adapted to mount the compass on a garment, whereby the compass is retained in a horizontal position at all times to give the user thereof a full view of the compass while walking.
Another object of the invention is to provide a mounting that is simple, easily attached and detached from a garment, and once attached, will remain securely in place without danger of loss of the compass.
With the above and other objects and advantages in View, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof;
`Figure 3 is a rear elevational View of the device;
`Figure 4 is a top plan View thereof;
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view and Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line v6--0 of Figure 1.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the bracket or mounting embodying the invention is generally designated by the reference numeral III, and comprises a body II, having the vertical portion I2 and circular shaped horizontal compass mounting portion I3 extending at right angles to the portion I 2, and formed integral therewith. Secured tothe portion I3 by suitable fasteners I4 is a conventional compass I5. Formed integral with the body and extending rearwardly of the portion I I are a pair of opposed apertured ears I6 which mount the U-shaped pin II in pivotal relation to the body II. The pin II is provided With pointed ends I8 in the conventional manner, and the pointed ends are receivable in the inturned curved keepers I9 formed on the lower end of the portion I2 in opposed open face relation to each other.
Secured to the front face of the portion I2 by a fastener 20 is the straight portion 2| of the spring latch 22, having the horizontal portion 23 on the end of the portion 2| at right angles thereto, and the depending portion 24 on the outer end of the portion 23 at right angles thereto. The portion 23 extends through the opening 2.5 in the portion I2 and extending between the inner ends of the keepers I9, retains the pointed ends I8 of the pin I'I in the keepers I9. To release the ends I8, the latch 22 is pushed rearwardlyy until the pin I'I canV be disengaged from the keepers I9.
In use the pin is inserted into a garment S0 that the compass I5 is in a horizontal position, and in view for the easy reading thereof. The ends of the pin I1 are then pushed into the keepers, and the spring latch will retain the ends in the keepers until the ends are released from the keepers for the unfastening of the mounting, from the garment.
It is believed that from the foregoing description, the operation and construction of the inventon will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it is to be understood that changes in the minor details of construction may be resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention, and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A mounting of the character described comprising a body having a horizontal mounting portion and a vertical supporting portion having an opening in the lower end thereof, a pair of opposed apertured ears formed integral with the vertical portion and extending rearwardly of said portion at the upper end thereof, a U-shaped double pointed pin pivotally mounted at its bight in said ears, a pair of inturned curved keepers formed on the lower end of said Vertical portion in opposed open face relation to each other and adapted to engage the pointed ends of said pins and to overlie the opening in said vertical portion, a spring latch having a straight portion fixed to the front face of the vertical portion, a horizontal portion on the lower end of the straight portion extending through the opening in the vertical portion of the body and a depending portion on the lower end of the horizontal portion of the latch engaging the pointed ends of the pin to retain the pins in the keepers.
