1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in stockings and foot protectors, and it has for its object to provide a device which will adequately serve as a protector for a ladys stockings, and which in a slightly modified form will also serve as a protector for a lady's stockings and shoes, especially where shoes with open toes are used.
The device is made of a thin plastic, and while a zipper system may be used for closing the front, buttons, if desired, may also be used, or the device may be made in one piece to be slipped over a shoe or stocking. 7
While, as stated the device preferably is made of plastic, it is understood that any suitable waterproof material may be used.
As the device is comparatively simple of construction the cost of making the same is proportionably low.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of our stocking protector, as applied to a pair of stockings.
Figure 2'is a side elevational view of a combined stocking and foot protector.
Figure 3 is a front view of the device shown in Figure 2 with the stocking protector partially open.
Figure 4 shows a piece of material, or blanks, cut to form a stocking protector, when assembled.
Figure 5 shows the material in Figure 4 made into a stocking protector, and within a shoe.
Figure 6 is a plan bottom view of the stocking protector shown in Figure 5.
Referring more particularly to the drawing and to Figure 1, the numeral I 0 indicates a stocking protector, of the kind hereinbefore described said stocking protector is slipped over a stocking I I and closed in the front by a zipper system l2 of the well known kind; as also stated before, buttons may, however, be used instead of a zipper, or the protector may be solid at the front.
' Said protector has at its lower end been formed with a strap l3 adapted to secure the protector to a shoe l4.
In the modification shown in Figure 2 a combined stocking and shoe protector of a fashionable appearance has beendevised.
In this latter view the stocking protector l0 has integral therewith a bottom I5 of a somewhat heavy and stiff material adapted to fully support the foot sole M of a ladys shoe.
Said combined stocking and shoe protector is formed with a high rear portion I6 fully protecting the calf of the leg, while the front portion of the stocking protector proper is somewhat lower and formed with nicely downwardly curved flaps I I, H, as may be seen in Figure 3. A zipper l2 may be chosen for closing said flaps at the front.
If desired, a strap [8, as shown, may be formed integral with the stocking and foot protector and adapted to engage the heel of the shoe or ankle of a person in order possibly to secure a more perfect and snug fitting of the device to a ladys stocking and shoe.
In the modification shown in the Figures 4 to 6, the stocking and foot protector is shown constructed to be attired directly upon the leg and foot of the wearer.
Thus in Figure 4 the said protector is shown cut from a blank, while in Figure 5 it is formed into an assembly.
In this latter view the protector 20 has its upper end bent upon itself and stitched as at 2|, to form a broad sleeve 22 adapted to receive an elastic band 3| shown in dotted lines for the purpose of securing said protector snugly to the leg of the wearer.
The protector 20 is formed with a cut out 23 to accommodate the movement of the foot; in order, however, also to secure a snug fitting of the foot portion 24 of the protector, a somewhat narrow sleeve 25 is formed around the open part on top of said foot portion, and adapted to receive an elastic band therein.
The sleeve 25 is made the same way, as the sleeve 22 hereinbefore described.
The protector shown in Figure 5 is worn within a shoe 26.
In order to contribute to the comfort of wearing said protector, the foot portion '21 of same is formed with stitches only at the front and rear as shown at 28 and 29, respectively, leaving the middle part 30 of the sole just bent upon itself and free from stitches.
The protector shown in Figure 5 may be closed in any suitable manner, such as by zippers.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and we do not, therefore, wish to limit ourselves to the exact construction shown REFERENCES CITED and described herein.
