This invention relates "to snap fasteners for wrist watches,'braceletsandthe like.
It is an object 'of'the *presentinventionto provide a fastener which is adjustable to accommodate the diiferen't size wrists of individuals and wherein the wrist watch or bracelet can be worn in a loose manner or "tight manner depending upon the adjustment of the "fastener and wherein the slide serves as a means for the securement of the foldable parts of the fastener together, the outward movement of "the slide "being necessary to a given amount in order that th parts can be separated and ifoldedirom one another and wherein the slide can "be 'locke'din any one of several different locations to which the same has been adjusted :and the distances between these locations being small.
Other objects of the :present invention are to provide a fastener for "wrist 'watches bracflets and the like which is adjustable "andwherein the slide serves as the locking device 'for ithefparts when they are folded together, which is of simple construction, easy 'to adjust, inexpensive to manufacture, of pleasing appearance, compact and 'durableand efficient in-operation.
For other objects and fora better "understanding of the invention, reference may be had "to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying 'drawing' in'which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a wrist watch having the adjustable fastener of the present invention in its band.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the fastener looking upon the outer 'part and in the end through whioh'the slide is adjusted butwith the slide retracted.

Referring now to the -figures, t5 represents ;a wrist "watch to the opposite ends of which "are connected theends-of a wris't'band [6 containing afoida'blesnap fastener tl] embodying the "teatunes .of the present invention. The fastener comprises an inner part 1'8 of arcuate shape, :a connecting intermediate part Y9 pivotally connected .to one end :of -"tl'ie inner part P8 and ,pivotally connected at it other endtto an .outer "part 2|. Within the outer part 2| is an adjustable slide 22 having loop 'or "sleeve formations 23 adapted'to "receive .a pin 2'4 Torthe connection of the links of the "wristband "t6 thereto. "The slide "22 can be extended to any one of several positions outof the outer part 2i and retained in those positions. The outer part has at one end or the end out ofwhichtheslide is :adjnsted, an inwardly "bent projection 25 adapted toregister with any one of 'a'pluralityoi notehesfltifor retaining the slide "in the location "to which *itihas been adjusted. The slide is "slit as indicated at '21 to provide a 'centralspring porti'on'fil containing the inotches 25. This :spflngportion extends substantially throughout the ilength of the slide 22. This portion has a'thunibnail'projeetiion'zil by which the portion .canbe inwardlyberitto free the projection 25 of one ofthe notches whereby to permit the slide to bemove'd outwardly a g'iven amount to .locate the projection 25 in another notch. At on location'in "the .central port'ion2'8 and inwardly of the .notches is an elongated notch or groove 3| into which "the projection15 is :extended when the slide is pulled out beyond the notches 26 and whereby the slide will bereleased .from the outer part '21 :so that the "outer part can .thenbe separatedfrom*theslide. The slide has at its opposite sides upstanding tflanges 3'2 bent so'that the slide canbe secured against upward displacement from "upwardly and inwardly 'ben't flanges B3 of the "outer fastener part The flange 32 is also bent and formed itopass beneath lips "34 of a downwardly and iinwardly bent 'flange35 (if the "inner :part it, Figs/6 and 8. long as the slide Hist/ell withintheparts and still connected through the notches 26 with the central portion 28, the inner part will be locked to the outer part through the slide in the manner just described. As soon as the slide has been moved so the projection is in the rear end of the elongated notch or groove 31, the flanges 32 of the slide will be released from the lips 34 of the inner part It and the inner part will no longer be connected with the outer part through the slide intermediary.
It will be apparent that while the slide 22 is adjusted so that the projection 25 is in the notches 26 that theparts will remain secured together and' that the band Will be in effect longer than if the slide is fully extended inwardly to the position as shown in Fig. 2 with the thumb nail portion engaging with the projection 25.
The intermediate part I9 is hinged between flanges 33 of the outer part 2| by a pin 35. The intermediate part I9 is pivotally connected to the part 58 by a pin 31. The inner part l8 has a sleeve formation 38 by which any of the links of the band portion may be connected.
The several parts of the fastener form, when closed upon one another, a sleeve-like assembly or structure which receives the slide 22 and which has an abutment 25 adapted to cooperate with the several notches 26 of the slide to hold the slide in its adjusted position relative to the sleeve assembly. The slide has the central portion 28 which has to be flexed in order to finally release the last notch 3| from the abutment 25 and for the purpose 'of removing the slide from the assembly. This flexing cannot be effected until pin 24 has been pulled. When the pin 24 is removed,
the band Hi can be released from the slide and the slide can accordingly be released from the sleeve-like assembly or folded parts by simply flexing the central portion to release the last notch 3! thereof.
It will be apparent that the fastener can be adjusted to difierentlengths so that the wrist band can accommodate the different size arms or can be adjusted to be worn loose or tight as the wearer may desire.
This application provides subject-matter similar to my co-pending application, Serial No. 32,682, filed simultaneously herewith," but the claims hereof are to be directed to the present specific arrangement of a slide part having a I series of notches adapted to cooperate with a pro.- jection on another part to hold the slide part in an adjusted position and to the use of the securing pin 24 to prevent the full flexure of thecentral portion 28 while effecting the adjustment to the different notch formations but upon removal thereof allowing the full flexure and the final disengagement of the slide part from the other parts.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A foldable adjustable slide fastener for bracelets, watch bands and the like comprising parts hinged together and adapted to be folded one upon the other to be fastened, a slide part adjustable in one of the hinged parts, means associated with the parts for holding the same in folded coupled relationship, said slide having two slits and providing for a central portion which may be flexed, said central portion having a pro.- jection thereon, said one part in which the slide 4 part is adjustable having a projection adapted to cooperate with the projection of the slide part to normally prevent the separation of the slide part from the one part, fastening means on the free end of the slide adapted for the attachment of the bracelet part or band therewith, said fastening means including a securing element when in place adapted to normally prevent the flexure of the central portion whereby disengagement of the slide part from the hinged parts is prevented unless the securing element of the fastening means for the attachment of the band is removed,; said central portion having a series of notched formations adapted to receive the projection of the one part whereby the slide part can be adjusted and'retained in any one of several positions, said securing element being adapted to permit the flexure of the central portion except for the disengagement of the notch formation at the inner end of the central portion by requiring the full removal of the securing element to permit the final disengagement of the slide part from the hinged parts.
2. An adjustable slide fastener device for bracelets, watch bands and the like comprising a sleeve-like assembly, a slide part adjustable in said assembly, said slide having a central portion adapted to be flexed and said sleeve assembly having an abutment thereon, said central portion having an abutment adapted to cooperate with the abutment on the sleeve assembly to normally prevent the disengagement of the slide from the sleeve assembly, an element releasably connected to the free end of the slide for the attachment thereto of a band part, said central portion projecting over the securing element so' that the flexing of the central portion will normally be prevented andonly adapted to be made upon the securingelement being removed, said central portion having a series of notches adapted to receive the abutment of the sleeve assembly whereby the slide can be adjusted and retained in any one of several positions, said securing element adapted to permit the flexure of .the central portion to permit the adjustment of the slide through the several notches except for the disengagement of the notch formation or abutment at the inner end of the central portion.
3. A foldable adjustable slide fastener for bracelets, watch bands and the like comprising parts hinged together and adapted to be folded one upon the other to be fastened, a slide part adjustable in one of the hinged parts, means associated with the parts for holding the same in folded coupled relationship, said slide having two slits and providing for a central portion which may be flexed, said central portion having a projection thereon, said one part in which the slide part is adjustable having a projection adapted to cooperate with the projection of the slide part to normally prevent the separation of the slide part from the one part, fastening means on the free end of the central portion of the slide adapted for the attachment of the bracelet part or band therewith, said fastening means including a securing element when in place adapted to normally prevent the flexure of the central portionwhereby disengagement of. the slide part from the, hinged 'parts is prevented unless the securing element of the fastening means for the attachment of the band is removed.

An adjustable slide fastener device for bracelets, watch bands and the like comprising a. sleeve-like assembly having an abutment therein, a slide adjustable within the sleeve-like assembly and having an abutment adapted to cooperate with the abutment of the assembly to normally limit the movement of the slide within the assembly and to prevent the disengagement of the slide from the assembly, said slide part having a central portion adapted to be flexed to release the abutments from each other to permit the disengagement of the slide from the sleevelike assembly, a securing element releasably connected to the slide and adapted to fix a band to the slide, said central portion of the slide extending over the securing element whereby to prevent the fiexure of the central portion and the release of the slide from the sleeve assembly so long as the securing element is in place upon the slide.
