4 Claims; 1
The present invention relates to a device for peeling potatoes of the type including a. container the inner side of'which is coated. with an abrasive substance, characterized in that. the
said container includes, on the one hand, a cylindrical-shaped part constituting its side-wall and means owing tov which. said part can be fitted inside a dish-washing machine, a machine of the type including a fixed casing; in which rotates a screw placed below a dish-basket. and fitted on a driving shaft setin motion by av motor, after the said dish-basket and the screw have been removed, and, on the other hand, a circularshaped plate constituting the bottom of the said container, means being provided forinterlocking angularly and ina detachable manner said plate and the driving shaft of the washing-machine.
The attached drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device according to the present invention.
Fig. 1 is a vertical section, according to'line I-I of the Fig. 2;
Fig. 2 is a plan view.
The device shown includes a container l the inner side of which is coated with an abrasive substance 2. This container includes a cylindrical shell 3 constituting its side-wall and a circular-shaped floor plate 4, constituting the bottom of the container. Part 3 is fitted with means permitting it to be adjusted inside a dishwashing machine. Said machine is of the kind comprising a fixed casing 5 in which rotates a screw placed below a dish-basket and fitted on a driving shaft 6 driven by a motor. In the drawing, the said dish-basket and the screw are supposed to have been removed. Means are provided for fitting part 3 in the washing-machine. These means include four connecting limbs 1 integral with part 3 and each one of which is, by one end, integral with a stiffening ring 8 girdling the bottom of the said cylindrical shell 3, and a body 9 having a flange I0 on which is rivetted the other end of each limb 1, said body having a locating or centering sleeve H cooperating with a bearing sleeve [2 integral with the bottom I3 of the casing 5. Furthermore, part 3 is provided with means owing to which it is capable of being immobilized angularl in the casing 5, said means being constituted by a pm Hi secured to the ring 8 and cooperating with another pin I5, secured to a flange inside the casing 5, so as to prevent any rotation from the cylindrical-shaped part 3 with respect to the washing-machine.
Means are provided for making the circularshaped floor-plate 4 angularly and in a detachable manner integral with the shaft 6. Said meansincludeby'wayof example, a square section hole; through the centre of the said plate 4,
cooperating with a correspondingly shaped part l1 oftheshaft 6. The end of shaft 6 is threaded to receive a nut It the purpose of which is to immobilize axially the plate 4- on shaft 6.
The floor plate 4 is further provided with a depending cup 22, the side walls of, which are formed by a depending cylindrical flange 23 which fits over the upper end of the locating sleeve H. The top wall of the cup is formed by a flange 24 extending inwardly from the top of said depending flange and terminating at the square section hole, said top wall resting on the upper ends of'thelocating sleeve H and bearing sleeve T2.
The cylindrical shell 3 includes, on its inner wall and close to the circular-shaped plate re-v ferred to above, a thin metallic tongue I 8 upraised" from the said inner wall, as shown in thedrawing, the purpose of which is to turn over the potatoes to be peeled.
The fitting. into the dish-washing machine, of the device described, is proceeded with as follows: After having removed the said dishbasket and the screw, the cylindrical shell 3 is introduced inside the casing 5 adapting at the same time the sleeve ll of the body 9 on the bearing sleeve [2 integral with the bottom 13 of the casing, the section 3 is lowered until the flange l0 re ts on the said bottom l3. The circular-shaped floor plate 4 is then fitted onto the part I! of the shaft 6 and the nut i6 is tightened to keep said circular-shaped plate in position, a disc I9 being preferably inserted between the plate 4 and the said screw.
The working of the device described is the following:
The circular-shaped floor plate 4, rotating rapidly puts in motion the potatoes which are in the container I, said potatoes being abraded as they come in contact with the abrasive substance of the inner-wall of the container, the tongue l8 contributing to both the stirring of the potatoes so as to bring each one of them against the abrasive substance and the regular functioning of the device described.
It should be added that it is advisable to pour water in the container I while the device is functioning, thus allowing of the ejection of the paste caused by abrasion of the surface of the potatoes. Said ejection is made possible by means of clearance' 20 which is between the plate 4 and the inner wall of the cylindrical shell 3 as well as by means of an ejecting aperture 2| provided in the bottom of the casing 5.
As it may be noted, this device which can easily be fitted into the washing-machine of the type hereinbefore mentioned, has the advantage of allowing to perform, with one single machine, two distinct operations: the peeling of potatoes and the washing of dishes, whence a sparing both of room and money.
What I claim is:
1. A peeling attachment for use with a dishwashing machine of the type including an open top casing having a rotary driving shaft extending upwardly from the bottom wall, a bearing sleeve surrounding the shaft, and a removable dish Washing basket, said attachment comprising a cylindrical shell having an inner abrading surface, a locating sleeve spaced inwardly from said shell and extending below the lower end thereof, a plurality of spaced, radial limbs interconnecting said locating sleeve and the lower end of said shell, said locating sleeve having an outwardly extending flange adapted to rest on the bottom of the casing to support said shell, interengaging means between said shell and said casing effective to prevent rotation of said shell, a rotary floor plate having an abrading upper surface and shaped to substantially close the lower end of said shell and, means for establishing a driving connection between said shaft and said floor plate.
2. An attachment according to claim 1 in which the floor plate is provided with a depending cylindrical flange shaped to fit over the upper end of said locating sleeve, and an inwardly extending flange at the top of said depending flange to rest on the top of one of said bearing and locating sleeves.
3. A peeler of the character described comprising an open top casing having a cylindrical bearing sleeve extending upwardly from its bottom wall, a rotary drive shaft extending upwardly through said sleeve; a cylindrical shell spaced inwardly from the side walls of said casing and upwardly above the bottom wall thereof, said shell having an abrading inner surface, support means for said shell comprising a plurality of angularly spaced limbs extending downwardly and inwardly from the lower edge of said shell, a support flange shaped to conform to the bottom of said casing and connected to the inner ends of said limbs, said support flange having a cylindrical locating sleeve shaped to fit over said bearing sleeve; a rotary floor plate having an upper abrading surface and provided with a depending cup having side walls sleeved over the upper end of said locating sleeve, an upper wall resting on the upper end of one of said bearing and locating sleeves, and a central opening to receive the upper end of said shaft; and means for establishing a driving relation between said floor plate and shaft.
4. A peeler according to claim 3 including interengaging means extending between said casing and said shell for preventing rotation of said shell in said casing.
