Description

Feb. 7, 1950 P. PRESZYLER 294969891 CAM-LOCKING BELT BUCKLE AND STRAP FASTENER Filed April 12, 1946 Patented Feb. i, 195i .UNITED STATES PATENT -OFFICE.
oam-LOCKING BELT BUCKLE AND V STRAP FASTENER Philip Preszler, Venice, Calif. a plication April12i1946, serialNo. 661,509,v
1 Ihisjinvention relates to aicam lockinglbelt buckle'andstrap'fastener.
An object of this invention is the construction of a device that provides a cheap,easi1y operated strap fastener for dress belts, as well as other similar articles or uses, in which apertures are not punched in the material. For this reason the device is especially suited to belts of plastic material, eliminating the breaking at the apertures when the conventional tongue buckle is used.
2 Claims. (Cl. 24-170) locking frame 8 isalso provided upon its outer end with a right angledigrip ll.
" A strap or belt I2has end l3 secured around pin 1, Fig. 5, with its outer free end threaded Another object of the invention is the con- Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the device, shown in a closed or locked condition.
Figure 4 is a top plan view.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 2 except that the device is shown in an open or unlocked condition.
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken on line 6-6, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrow.
Figure 7 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 1-1, Fig. 3, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings, in which the preferred embodiment of this invention is illustrated, l designates a body or casing. This casing l comprises a bottom 2 and parallel sides 3. The casing l is made of any suitable material, and is provided in its sides 3 with a pair of registering .apertures 4. A follower plate 5 is placed between sides 3, and this plate is provided with two ears 6; ears 6 are positioned in apertures 4 and extend a slight distance beyond the sides 3 for the purpose hereinafter described. A pin 1 extends across the casing and its ends are upset or headed whereby the pin 1 is securely fastened upon the sides of the casing.
A wire-like locking frame 8 is provided, and its inner portion extends through the sides 3. This inner portion comprises angle portions 9 (Fig. 4) that are integral with the cam portion 10. The
through casing I, under the follower plate 5. When the locking frame 8 is in its closed position, the cam portion I ii will tightl engage the follower plate 5, securing the loose end of the belt in an adjusted position. When the locking frame is in its closed position the snap lip M will be in positive engagement with the outer end of the bottom 2, and the outer ends of ears 6 will also be in engagement with the side portions [5 (Fig. 4) of the locking frame 8, whereby the locking frame 8 is securely retained in a locked or closed position. Therefore, it will be seen that the ears 6 perform a dual function, to wit: they are the means of pivotally mounting the follower plate 5 upon the casg. and act as a brake or locking means for the locking frame 8 in addition to the snap lip l4, whereby a very efiicient device is produced. The locking frame 8, however, is easily manipulated by the operator, when it is desired to unlock the device, as shown in Figure 5.
When the device is in its locked condition the right angled grip II is behind the outer end of casing l, with snap lip M in the same horizontal i plane with the bottom 2 of easing l as clearly seen in Figure 3.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of my invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing provided with parallel sides, said casing provided with a bottom, said sides provided with a pin near one end and with a pair of registering apertures near the opposite end, a follower plate between said parallel sides, said follower plate provided with ears extending through said pair of apertures, a locking frame formed from one piece of wire-like material, said locking frame pivotally mounted on said parallel sides, said locking frame provided on its inner end between said parallel sides with angle portions, said angle portions integral with a cam portion, said cam portion being adapted to engage said follower plate, said locking frame provided with two side portions and with a right angled grip on its outer 3 end, said right angled grip provided with an inwardly extending snap lip, and said side portions of the locking frame being adapted to engage the outer ends of said ears, and said snap lip being adapted to engage the outer end of said bottom when the locking frame is in a closed or locked position upon said casing.
2. In a. device of the class de qribed, the com bination of a casing provided with arallel, sides. and a bottom, said sides provided with registering apertures, a follower plate provided on its side,
edges with outwardly-extending ea rs said ears projecting through said registering apertures, said ears having their outer ends beyond the outer faces of said sides, a single-piece, wire-like frameengaging the outer ends of said ears, said transversely-positioned end portion provided with an inwardly-extending lip, and said lip normally engaging the outer end of said bottom, substantially 5 as shown and described.
pivotally mounted on said sides, said wire-like Y frame having portions extending through said sides and terminating in side portions outside of 1 said casing, said side portions terminating at the r we! eggs, in. a traasversel mqs tigas end Portion, Said end D we norma ly bey n he We -igne us, end at Said sa d si e por ion PHILIP PRESZLER.
