This invention relates to foot coverings for stockings to be worn by the owner as protection in rainy weather, the same fitting tightly over the stocking and between the stocking and. the shoe.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a waterproof lightweight inexpensive covering that is easily packed and which can be wiped clean and folded into a small space in order to be ready at all times for use.
It is a further object to provide a foot covering which is to be worn during rainy weather to keep the wearers feet dry, and the stockings spotless and free from dirt.
It is another object to provide a foot covering particularly adaptable for use by the wearer over stockings when the wearer is using shoes of the toeless type.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a foot covering which will draw tightly over the foot and which may be so formed as to be nearly completely hidden by the shoe.
It is still another object of the present invention to provide a foot covering which has means for covering ornamental fixtures on the top of the shoe which may be extended either outwardly to cover the fixture or be kept unexposed and folded into the covering and out of the way.
According to the present invention, the stocking covering can be folded out of the interior of the shoe and extended down over the top of the shoe to cover up any ornament that may be disposed on the same. To retain the extension in this position laterally extending tabs are provided on the end of the same adapted to fit in under the sides of the toe opening of the toeless shoe.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a shoe on a foot and provided with an internal stocking covering in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is the perspective view of a covering with its extension projected outwardly.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the covering with the extension folded into the covering to its out-of-use position.
The stocking covering, according to the present invention, includes a covering member 2| for engagement over the stocking within a shoe 41. The covering member 2| has an extension 45 adapted to extend out of the covering to be brought forwardly downwardly over an ornament 46 on the top of the shoe which is of the toeless type with a toe opening 48 therein. In order to retain this extension in place, there are provided side tabs 19 and 5|] adapted to be tucked into the sides of the toe opening 48 as shown in Fig. 1. When the extension 45 is not in use and there is no ornament on the shoe to be covered, it can be folded into the interior of the covering member 21 as indicated by dotted lines of Fig. 3.
The covering member 2| is preferably formed of a water-proof resinous plastic material.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
1. In a protective sheath having a one-piece waterproof body to be worn over the human foot within a shoe having a front ornament and an opening in the toe area at the front of the shoe, means for covering the ornament to protect the same during inclement weather, comprising an elongated flexible tongue continuing from the top edge of the body for extension forward across the top of the shoe at the front thereof, said tongue being formed intermediate of its length with an enlarged portion for engagement over the ornament, said tongue being of a length to be extended forward over the front of the shoe with said enlarged portion extending over the ornament and with its free end tucked into the opening in the toe area of the shoe.
2. In a protective sheath having a one-piece waterproof body to be worn over the human foot within a shoe having a front ornament and an opening in the toe area at the front of the shoe, means for covering the ornament to protect the same during inclement weather, comprising an elongated flexible tongue continuing from the top edge of the body for extension forward across the top of the shoe at the front thereof, said tongue being formed intermediate of its length with an enlarged portion for engagement over the ornament, said tongue being of a length to be extended forward over the front of the shoe with said enlarged portion extending over the ornament and with its free end tucked into the opening in the toe area of the shoe, said tongue being of a width corresponding substantially to the width of the opening in the toe area of the shoe to engage therein without wrinkling, and side tabs extending from opposite sides of the free end of said tongue to engage the inside face of the shoe on opposite sides of the opening in the toe area when the free end of the tongue is inserted into the opening for releasably retaining the free end of the tongue in position with the enlarged portion engaged over the ornament.
