SOLE WITH DETACHABLE UPPER Jaim 33M W5@ Filed NOV. 25, 1947 Edna JW. .Roy

SLE WITH DETACHABLE UPPER Edna M. Roy, Pittsburg, Calif.
Application November 25, 1947, Serial No. '787,990
2 Claims.
This invention relates to footwear and more particularly to a combination sandal, houseshoe, playshoe and bathing shoe, and has for its principal object the provision of a shoe having a detachable upper.
It is an object of the invention to provide a shoe of the type disclosed wherein the upper can be detached in order to conserve space in pack` ing or storing, and for laundering or replacement purposes.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a combination shoe, as above, which is designed so that the lower portion or outer sole may be worn as a sandal or the like when the upper is detached.
A further object of this invention is to provide a combination shoe wherein the upper is in the form of a short sock, including a heel; there being an inner sole in the sock and quick detachable fastening means in part secured to the inner sole and projecting downwardly through the bottom of the sock for releasable engageh ment with flush, cooperating fastener parts on the lower portion or outer sole of the shoe.
These and other objects of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, and in which:
Figure l is a side elevation of the complete shoe;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the outer sole;
Figure 3 is an enlarged section taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is an enlarged section taken on line 4-d of Figure l, the straps being removed.
Fig. 5 is a greatly enlarged fragmentary section of the inner and outer soles of the shoe, showing a snap fastener.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the shoe comprises an upper 5, an inner sole 6, a lower or outer sole 1, and straps 8 and 9. The upper can be of woolen or other suitable fabric, or may be made of a material suitable for use as a bathing shoe; such upper being in the form of a sock in- 2 upper surface of the outer sole so that the latter can be Worn separately as a sandal without discomfort to the wearer.
Straps 8 and passing through slots Il and l2 respectively in the outer sole l, relieve the fasteners lll of the weight of the sole, being secured in sandal fashion as shown on Figure 1. These straps also permit said outer sole to be worn separately as a sandal, as above described.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that a shoe of my novel design can be used for a number of purposes, also it can be dismantled, and packed in a relatively small space. The upper can be detached for laundering or replacement, and by means of an assortment of uppers, the shoe Vcan readily be adapted to suit the particular need of the wearer.
While I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of my invention, it should be understood. that modifications may be made within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
l. A combination shoe comprising an outer sole, foot straps on the outer sole extending from side to side thereof for securing said outer sole to the foot of a wearer, an upper for reception of the wearers foot, the straps being adapted to engage over said upper, an inner sole disposed in the upper on the bottom thereof, and quick detachabie snap fasteners releasably connecting the inner sole to the outer sole; said snap fasteners including male elements secured on the inner sole and projecting through the bottom of the upper, and cooperating female elements secured in the top of the outer sole and lying substantially flush with the upper surface thereof.
2. A combination shoe comprising an outer sole, foot straps on the outer sole extending from side to side thereof for securing said outer sole to the foot of a wearer, an upper for reception of the wearers foot, said upper being in the form of a sock, the straps being adapted to engage over said upper, an inner sole disposed in the upper on the bottom thereof, and quick detachable snap fasteners releasably connecting the inner sole to the outer sole; said snap fasteners including male elements secured on the inner sole and projecting through the bottom of the upper, and cooperating female elements secured in the top of the outer sole and lying substantially ush with the upper surface thereof.
