Description

Jan. 24, 19% E. M. HENDERSON MUFF POCKET FOR HUNTING GARMENTS 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Filed Sept. 11, 1947 Inventor Edgar M. Henderson Jan. 2% HQ E. M. HENDERSON F POCKET FOR HUNTING GARMENTS MUF 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Sept. 11, 1947 Iuz'enlor Edgar M. Henderson Patented Jan. 24, 1950 UNITED STATES FATENT @FFEQE 3 Claims.
This invention appertains to novel and useful improvements in garments and particularly a pocket to be utilized in association therewith.
An object of this invention is to provide a pocket construction including a pocket panel specifically provided for retaining various and sun dry articles and a second pocket panel positioned thereabove adapted particularly for receiving a persons hand therein.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for retaining firearms cartridges and shells, and said retaining means being secured to the upper pocket panel.
A further purpose of this invention is to extend the lower extremity of the upper pocket panel around the lower portion of the said firearms cartridge retaining means for support purposes.
Another purpose of this invention is to provide closure means for the lower pocket panel, which is secured to the upper pocket panel.
Another purpose of this invention is to provide a device of the nature to be described which is easily manufactured and which is commercially feasable.
Ancillary objects and features of novelty will become apparent to those skilled in the art, in following the description of the preferred form of the present invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a pictorial view of the present invention utilized with a jacket;
Figure 2 is an enlarged elevational view of the preferred form of the invention, portions being broken away to illustrate details of construction;
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of the invention shown in Figure 2 and taken substantially on the line 3-3 thereof and in the direction of the arrows;
Figure 4: is a sectional View of the invention shown in Figure 2 and taken on the line c e thereof and in the direction of the arrows, and;
Figure 5 is an enlarged sectional view taken on the line 5--5 of Figure 2 and in the direction of the arrows.
Referring now in detail to the illustrated preferred embodiment of the present invention, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements.
This invention has been developed to provide a pocket device for more efiicaciously retaining various and sundry articles accompanied by a compartment for receiving particularly a persons hand or if desired, other sundry items therein. Also associated with the last mentioned compartment is a device for receiving firearms cartridges therein and for retaining the cartridges in a safe, convenient location, said convenient location being mainly exterior of a lower pocket panel.
A lower pocket panel or first panel is is secured to a selected portion of the jacket l2, as seen in Figure 1. This lower pocket panel has three sides stitched to the said jacket, leaving the upper portion thereof open. The said upper portion may also be stitched after being folded upon itself as shown at M in Figure 4.
An upper pocket panel it is provided adjacent the said lower pocket panel and is also stitched to another selected portion of the said jacket [2. As is seen from an inspection of Figure 2, the said upper or second pocket panel has an opening at the side thereof and this opening is also provided with folded edge portions stitched down for strengthening purposes, as seen at 29.
Referring to Figure 4, it will be noted that the said second or upper pocket panel extends a short distance within the lower pocket panel and the bottom marginal edge of said upper pocket panel is folded at 22 for the purpose of receiving a strip 24 therein. Then, the strip 24 and the folds at 22 may be stitched to the said jacket !2.
Transverse rows of stitches 2t retain the said strip 24 to the upper pocket panel l6 and form individual recesses for receiving cartridges, bullets or the like therein. Of course, the upper edge of the said strip 2d may have a fold 28 therein, stitched down for strengthening purposes.
It is here noted that the lower portion of the said strip and also the lower portion of the said upper pocket panel member is received slightly within the lower pocket panel it. Also, a closure is stitched to the upper pocket panel, extending over the strip 2% and also over the upper open portion of the lower pocket panel it. Ihis closure is is preferably of a double thickness having inturned folds 32 at one end thereof and mutually intertwined U-shaped folds 34 at the other end thereof, having the stitching extending therethrough.
Double rows of stitching may utilized wherever it is found desirable as for retaining the lower portion of the strip in the proper position. Extra thicknesses of stitchesmay also be provided at selected points to further insure the support afforded by the "'ching.
While there has been described and illustrated but a single preferred embodiment of the invention, it is apparent that various changes including omissions, additions and rearrangement of he Mu elements may be made herein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Accordingly, limitation is sought only in accordance with the scope of the following claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a pocket construction, a lower pocket panel having an opening at the top thereof, an upper pocket panel having an opening at the side thereof and having its lower end disposed behind said lower pocket panel, a flap secured to said upper panel for closing said opening at the top of said lower panel, a strip of material secured to said upper panel and disposed partially within said lower panel, transverse rows of stitches in said strip and said upper panel forming individual shell retaining recesses, and said flap covering said strip.
2. In a pocket construction, a lower pocket panel having an opening at the top thereof, an upper pocket panel having an opening at the side thereof and having its lower end disposed behind said lower pocket panel, a flap secured to said upper panel for closing said opening at the top of said lower panel, a strip of material secured to said upper panel and disposed partially within said lower panel, transverse rows of stitches in said strip and in said upper panel forming indi- 4 vidual shell retaining recesses, said flap covering said strip, and means for supporting said strip including folds in the bottom of said upper panel extending around a portion of said strip.
3. In a pocket construction, a lower pocket panel, an upper pocket panel having an opening at the side thereof, said upper pocket panel having a lower folded end disposed behind said lower panel, a strip having a lower edge, a row of stitching fastening said strip lower edge to said upper pocket panel folded end, a flap stitched to said upper panel and overlying said strip and a part of said lower pocket panel, a plurality of substantially parallel spaced rows of stitches fastening said strip to said upper pocket panel and together with said row of stitching forming cartridge pockets.
