corporated, Highland Park, Mich., a corporation of Michigan Application May 27, 1947, Serial No. 750,734 1 Claim. (Cl. 20-68) My present invention relates to an improved weather strip particularly adapted for use between doors and their stops and comprising a simple installation adaptable to any hingeddoor providing a resilient weather seal inexpensive to manufacture and install and yet eicient ,in operation.
The device of my invention comprehends the preparation of the door stop with a vertically extending recess into which the seal is fitted and secured to receive the vertical free edge of the door.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a horizontal sectional view of the device of my invention installed and sealed by the closed door. K
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the Fig. 3 is a sectional View at line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view at line 4--4 of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawings, I have illus;- trated the device of my invention as used with a door frame 2 having a stop 4, and a door 6.
In a recess 8 in the door stop I locate a rectangular housing I having a longitudinal slot I2 on the outer face I4 and interior of the housing I locate a substantially rectangular strip of resilient material I6 as sponge rubber.
A seal strip is formed with an inner flange I9, a connection strip 20 and an outer flange stripl 22 preferably of a flexible material as rubber.
The outer face of the ange strip 22 is recessed at 24 and this strip is so formed as to be dished or concave in cross section so that the edges 26 and 2B will be contracted and the ange when door open.
2 not compressed will be curved inwardly as-seen in Fig. 2.
When the door is closed as in Fig. 1 the sealing strip will be pressed in to compress the sponge rubber filler and the outer flange will be flattened under pressure of the door.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
The combination with a recessed door stop, of a rectangular shaped housing having a longitudinal slot in its outer face forming opposed inturned parallel flanges, a rectangular shaped strip of resilient material in said housing spaced from the outer face of said housing, a ilanged sealing strip, I-shaped in cross section, having an inner plane flange positioned in said housing inwardly of said slot and an outer concave flange positioned outwardly of the slot in the outer face of said housing, said strip being movable with relation to said housing with the limit of its movement determined by the inner and outer flanges thereof, the outer flange of said sealing strip having a longitudinal recess at the center of its concavity and said outer flange adapted to assume a flattened condition under door pressure and movable under contact of a closing door to compress the ller and seal the door.
