Figuremsatop planiview. omyiimprovedfcartridge loading device, illustrating the pivoted arms in extended position with the cartridges to be aligned positioned therebetween;
Figure 2 is a View similar to the view of Fig. 1, illustrating the pivoted arms in parallel relation with the cartridges aligned in a single row, with the loading fork in loading position;

Referring now to the drawings in which similar reference characters represent similar parts, my invention comprises a base 2 of Wood, plastic, or any other suitable composition or metal, provided with identical supporting members 4 which are secured to the base by means of conventional identical bolts or screws 6. A transverse member 8 is aixed by means of conventional bolts or the like I0 across one end of the base. 'Ihe free end of arm I8 is provided with a slotted recess 32 adapted to receive one end of latch 34 which is pivotally connected to the arm I8 by means of a conventional bolt 36. Latch 34 is provided with an arm 38 and with shoulders 40 and 42, shoulder 48 being adapted to engage the inside surface of arm I8, while shoulder 42 engages the outside surface of arm I6 when the arms are in parallel relation, thereby maintaining the arms in loading position. Arm I8 is provided with an annular recess in its inner surface, adapted to receive one end of coil spring 44, the other end of Said spring engaging arm 38 of latch 34, whereby the latch 34 is normally maintained at an angle of 90 from the arrn I8 with the shoulder 40 engaging the inner surface of arm I8 as shown in Fig. 6. The free end of arm I6 is provided with a transverse recess I 1 adapted to receive latch 34, as shown in Fig. 6. The inner end of the recess may be provided with an angularly disposed metallic guide and reenforcing member 46, maintained in position by conventional identical bolts or screws 48. When the arms are brought to the parallel position, shoulder 42 engages the inclined surface of guide 46, spring 44 is contracted, storing force therein, until shoulder 42 clears the slot in arm I6, when the latch is locked in position by the action of spring 44 and is maintained (in this position until manually released.
In operation, the free ends of arms I6 and I8 are spread to the position shown in Fig. 1, and a box of cartridges, usually 50 in number, are placed therebetween on the base with the ball ends up. The arms are manually pressed together, with a slow semicircular motion, care being exercised not to apply excessive pressure, until all the cartridges are brought into alignment in a single row, as illustrated in Fig. 2, when the latch 34 locks the arms together. The loading fork is then placed over the arms iii- I8 with the finger 28 behind the number of cartridges to be loaded. Manual pressure is then exerted on arm 24 of the fork and the cartridges are forced into the clip.
While I have illustrated and described the invention in some detail, it is to be understood the invention is not to be limited to such detail, but only by the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
