An annular member 35 is mounted on top of the series of guide blocks and projects outwardly therefrom. The member 35 carries a reed 36 of annular form, the reed overlying the blades I] and lying parallel thereto. The reed is preferably made in a plurality of sections and the member 35 is formed with a peripheral rim 35a having a slot in its outer face, in which the inner edge of the reed is received to be held in place by a plurality of set screws 31.
With the construction described, the heddle wires in each group carried on a pair of elements spanning the space between adjacent blades are freely movable relative to one another, since the portions of the elements lying between opposed faces of the blades are of uniform size from end to end. There are thus no obstructions on the elements, which would interfere with the free movement of the wires as they adjust themselves to their proper relative positions. Should a single wire become broken or defective and require replacement, the elements, on which the wire is mounted, need be removed from only one of the blades in which they are supported. The wires may then be slipped off the free ends of the elements until the broken or defective Wire has been removed, such warp threads as are necessary being broken prior to the removal of the wires. After the defective wire has been replaced and the warp threads again passed through the eyes of their respective wires and tied up, the elements on which the group of wires are mounted may be quickly restored to their normal positions in their supporting blades. The replacement of a slide or a guide block is equally simple. The
mounting of the reed in the annular member resting on and secured to the lower series of guide blocks insures that the reed will be properly positioned and held securely in place during loom operation.
What I claim is:
1. In a heddle mechanism for use in a circular loom, the combination of two circular series of slides, an annular support having horizontal radial guideways in which the slides are mounted for endwise movement, the guideways being arranged in two groups in upper and lower levels, a blade mounted at the outer end of each slide and extending outwardly therefrom, each blade having upper and lower openings near each end, elements connecting adjacent blades only of the same group and extending freely through corresponding openings in said blades, each blade being connected at both ends to the adjacent blade at one side thereof by elements in the upper openings in said blades and to the adjacent blade at the other side thereof by elements in the lower openings in said blades, each element having means at each end for engaging the blades to prevent dislodgment of the element, the means at one end being manipulable to permit the element to pass through the openings, in which it is mounted, a plurality of heddle wires in each space between adjacent blades, each wire having loops at its ends loosely encircling the ele- .ments connecting said blades, and cam means disposed centrally relative to the series of slides and operable on the slides to reciprocate them.
2. In a heddle mechanism for use in a circular loom, the combination of two circular series of slides, an annular support having horizontal radial guideways in which the slides are mounted for endwise movement, the guideways being arranged in two groups in upper and lower levels, a blade mounted at the outer end of each slide and extending outwardly therefrom, each blade having upper and lower openings near each end, rods connecting adjacent blades only of the same group and extending freely through corresponding openings in said blades, each blade being connected at both ends to the adjacent blade at one side thereof by rods in the upper openings in said blades and to the adjacent blade at the other side thereof by rods in the lower openings in said blades, each rod having enlarged heads at its ends to prevent dislodgment of the rod, the head at one end being removable to permit the rod to be withdrawn from. the openings, in which it is mounted, a plurality of heddle wires in each space between adjacent blades, each wire having loops at its ends loosely encircling the rods connecting said blades, and cam means disposed centrally relative to the series of slides and operable 0n the sides to reciprocate them.
3. In a heddle mechanism for use in a circular loom, the combination of two circular series of slides, an annular support having horizontal radial guideways in which the slides are mounted for endwise movement, the guideways being arranged in two groups in upper and lower levels, a blade mounted at the outer end of each slide and extending outwardy therefrom, each blade having upper and lower openings near each end, metal strips connecting adjacent blades only of the same group and extending freely through corresponding openings in said blades, each blade being connected at both ends to the adjacent blade at one side thereof by strips in the upper openings in said blades and to the adjacent blade at the other side thereof by strips in the lower openings in said blades, each strip lying with its wide faces horizontal and having an enlarged head at one end and a stop at the other to prevent dislodgment of the strip, the stop being manipulable to permit the end of the strip carrying the stop to pass through the openings, a plurality of heddle wires in each space between adjacent blades, each wire having loops at its ends loosely encircling the strips connecting said blades, and cam means disposed centrally relative to the series of slides and operable on the slides to reciprocate them. I
4. In a heddle mechanism for use in a circular loom, the combination of two circular series of slides, an annular support having horizontal radial guideways in which the slides are mounted for endwise movement, the guideways being arranged in two groups in upper and lower levels, a blade mounted at the outer end of each slide and extending outwardly therefrom, each blade having upper and lower openings near each end, elements connecting adjacent blades only of the same group and extending freely through corresponding openings in said blades, each blade being connected at both ends to the adjacent blade at one side thereof by elements in the upper openings in said blades and to the adjacent blade at the other side thereof by elements in the lower openings in said blades, each element having means at each end for engaging the blades to prevent dislodgment of the element, the means at one end being manipulable to' permit the element to pass through the openings, in which it is mounted, a plurality of heddle wires in each space between adjacent blades, each wire having loops at its ends loosely encircling the elements connecting said blades, cam means disposed centrally relative to the series of slides and operable on the slides to reciprocate them, and a reed of annular form mounted on the support to overlie the blades on the slides.
5. In a heddle mechanism for use in a circular loom, the combination of an annular support, a plurality of guide blocks mounted at uniform spacings on the support, each block having upper and lower radial guideways, a slide mounted for endwise movement in each guideway, a blade mounted at the outer end of each slide and extending outwardly therefrom, each blade having upper and lower openings near each end, elements connecting adjacent blades of slides in the same level and extending freely through corresponding openings in said blades, each blade being connected at both ends to the adjacent blade at one side thereof by elements in the upper openings in said blades and to the adjacent blade at the other side thereof by elements in the lower openings in said blades, each element having means at each end for engaging the blades to prevent dislodgment of the element, the means at one end being 6 manipulable to permit the element to pass through the openings, in which it is mounted, a plurality of heddle wires in each space between adjacent blades, each wire having loops at its ends loosely encircling the elements connecting said blades, and cam means disposed centrally relative to the series of slides and operable on the slides to reciprocate them.
