In Belgium November 27,1943 I 1 Section 1, Public Law 690,, August8,'1948 Patent expires November 27, 1963 The'invention relates to a new device for the formation of special selvedge or split in the middle of the fabrics when weaving in one operation a plurality of fabrics of a width which is less than the reedspace of the loom. It isknown 7 that several fabrics of difierent width can be woven on one same loom when between the fabrics, wovennext to each other, a strip without warp yarn has been provided. Later on these fabrics are separated by cutting off the entire piece along the axis of said parts without warp yarnj It is however necessary to provide along the sides thus cut off, a selvedge or split capable to prevent the ravelling of the fabric, which at these places is. unprovided with the normal selvedge which generally exists along the external sides of the fabrics.
Certain devices have already been suggested for the production of such selvedges, which make use of a fixed rod, cut out in sucha way that it represents two fixed needles, each needle having on its .end an eyelet, this fixed rod and those needles cooperating with a movable rod provided with'inclined slits ending on an eyelet, in such a manner that the threads when passing through said slits, are capable of being deplaced'transversely, so as to form a special twilling which willform'the pseudo-selvedge or splits. The latter, as produced by this device, generally has the form of a combination of a straight warp yarn with 'awarp-yarn interwoven between said straight warp-yarn and the successive picks.
The present invention concerns a new device -permitting to realize the selvedges or centreselvedge in a systematic way, providing at the same'time a greater resistance and the possibility of being better adapted to the nature of the fabrics due to the fact that the interweaving of a warp-yarn can be effected along two straight warp yarns and at wish, at each pick, at every two picks, every four picks, etc.
The device manufactured in accordance with the present invention is characterized by a combination of three rods which are placed in juxtaposition, whereby all three of them'carry out a straight, alternative movement in a vertical plane, parallel to the plane of the card.

Figure 1 shows that it is possible to provide the centre selvedge, while maintaining straightened the two threads of the chain a b and interweaving a third thread of thechain 0, respectively between the first two and the picks or weftyarn. .,The movements after the execution of the weftdl show that the chain a must be kept elevated, the chain b lowered, whilst the chain's must be lowered, thus coveringthe first two transversely. - in reverse sense, the chainyarn b being raised and the chainyarn a being lowered; in these new positions the same quantity of picks is formed and these successive movements are thus continually repeated. It is sufficient to provide in due time the lowering, raising and the standstill of the chainyarns which are to form the centreselvedge, two of these yarns receiving periodically a little transverse movement, once in one direction, once in the other, the first chainyarn being passed through the eyelet of a needle, which is. carrying out an alternative straight movement. The result is that this needle, places alternately itschain yarnto the left or the right of the first two. The interweaving, forming the centre-selvedge is thus realised.
The device has. beenconceived so that it can realise at the same time two selvedges, respectively, for the adjacent sides o'f the two fabrics which are bein woven simultaneously.
