Description

EYE SHADE Filed May 31, 1947 /I/IJJXQ) FY INVENTOR.
Patented Dec. 13, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim. 1
The invention relates to eye-shades, and more specifically it relates to a new type of eye-shade as described in my patent application Ser. No. 746,571.
The new eye-shade as described in said patent application is characterized by an elongated mechanical bar across the face in the zone of the eye-brows. Its main characteristics are a rollating nose-rest fitting into the recess of the bones between the brow-zone of the skull and the nosebone, and pivots for holding means, said pivots being coaxial with the axis of a mathematical cylinder of which the curved nose-rest is a segment.
When producing such an eye-shade in plastics, it is important to avoid thick walls. In this respect the cited patent application had shown a modification, in which the bar was of tubular structure.
The present application shows a modification, in which the bar is a fiat plate, which is so to say the longitudinal center slice of a mathematical cylinder. In the middle of said plate, said rollating nose rest is retained, forming-as in the other two modifications of the copending patent application-a segment of the same mathematical cylinder. At each end of said plate a pivot for the holding means is provided, said two pivots being coaxial with the axis of said mathematical cylinder.
The invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the Figures 1-7 inclusive of the accompanying drawings.
Fig. 1 shows a side view of a person wearing the eye-shade.
Fig. 2 shows a front view of the person shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section along the plane I2-l2 indicated in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a cross section along the plane l3-I3 indicated in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a top view of the plate.
Fig. 6 is a. perspective view of Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a cross section, illustrating a. detail of Fig. 3. It shows that mathematically the curve of the actually rollating contact surfaceand not the curve of such side guides as may be provided against skidding off the nose and as shown in the Figures 1 to 6 inclusive-is computed on to arrange the pivots coaxially.
Fig. 3 shows in dotted lines a tilted position of the shade. Due to the coaxial arrangements of the pivots, there is no eccentric lever effect when the shade is tilted, rollating on its nose rest. The thrust against the nose remains the same.
Having now described the nature of my invention and having shown by examples the manner in which it may be performed, I claim as my invention:
An eye shade of the type described including an elongated shade member and a, rollating nose rest in which the eyes are shaded by said elongated shade member arranged across the face in the brow-zone and in which two pivots for holding means, one pivot at each side of said elongated shade member, are coaxial with said rollating nose rest, said nose rest being geometrically a segment of a cylinder; comprising a shade element which, except for the nose rest, is a longitudinal slice of said geometrical cylinder.
