GOGGLE Agaton Aris Balanon, Kalaheo Kauai, Territory of Hawaii 1 Claim.
This invention relates to goggles. I An object of this invention is to provide goggles which may be used for diving or for other purposes andwhich can be made by hand with a pocket knife from wood ior the like material.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described in which 8.
Application April 17, 1943, Serial No. 483,385
number of the frames may 'be made from a long stick of wood, the goggle being so shaped as to fit closely around the eyes of the wearer and each pair of goggles being interconnected by a link to permit each goggle to move into position to fit the face of the wearer without being hampered by the other goggle.
; Yet a further'object of'this invention is to provide a compact, durable pair of goggles which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, attractive in appearance and yet practicaland eflicient to a high degree in use. i
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will beindicated in the following claim.
Fig. 1 is a front, elevational view of a pair of goggles embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectinal view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a rear, elevational view of one of the goggles; and
Fig. 4 is a partial, elevational view of a stick of wood from which a plurality of goggle frames may be cut.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, Ill designates a pair of goggles. Each goggle ll comprises a frame l2 and a pane or window IS. The frame l2 may be made of wood or anyother suitable material. It has a flat front surface l4 formed with an annular recess or groove l5 and with a through opening I8 connecting with said groove. The side surface I I of the frame I 2 extends at an angle to the front surface l4. The
rear surface l8 of the frame is grooved rearwardly and downwardly so as to fit the surface the outer edges of the goggles to form wall 22.
a central The wall 22 is formed with a through opening 23 to receive a string. for attaching of the wearer. The, l3 may be fixed within the bot-' the goggles around the head window or glass tom of the groove l5 by plastic wedge 25. The entire frame may be shellacked or otherwise coated or finished.
. Screwed to the inner side of each frame I2 is an eye 26. The eyes 26 of the two goggle frames are interconnected by a link 21.
The goggle frames may be made from a long I stick of wood 30. The stick is planned longitudiof the face around the eye. Said rear surface l8 is furthermore inclined forwardly and down.-
wardly so as to'form an edge l8a adapted to contact the face. The edge portion engaging the face tends to make the goggles more or less water proof. Notches 2| are cut on opposite sides of nally and then cut transversely along inclined planes 3I to form pieces 32 from which the goggle frames are made. The pieces 32 are then out along the lines 33 to form the rear'surface of a goggle frame. It will be noted that the goggle frames can be The through opening iii of each goggle frame preferably converges toward the rear as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiment above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in'the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not, in a limiting sens Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A solid wooden goggle frame of substantial and non-uniform thickness comprising a front flat surface and having a through opening, said front surface having an annular groove, a window seated in said groove, means holding said -window.in its grooved seat, said frame further having a rear surface grooved rearwardly and downwardly, said rear surface being inclined forwardly and downwardly forming an edge to fit the face of the user around the eye, said through opening converging towards the rear of the-frame,
said frame having'notches on the opposite sides a of the outer edges thereof forming a wall, said wall having an aperture, and a string in said aperture for attaching the goggle frame around the head of a wearer.
