(c1. sof-172') My present invention, in its reference to improvements in combination scrapingand planing tools, rand an `improved blade therefore and adjustable planing surfaces, and means for quickly and accurately affecting adjustmentcf the respective parts, and especially of the blades, of which there are two. More particularly, it is my purpose to provide a scraping tool havingV detachably and` adjustably carried thereon a guide frame providing asmooth planing support for theblades when the device is tc be used as a planing tool, also my device is designed to present two blades at the-proper angle for cutting and planing, and which is readily and quickl-y adjustable and is not likely to become clogged with chips or shavings and the like. My planing guide frame is adjustably andremovably mounted in` a unique and improved manner; and reversible. The blades are either single thicknessorvlaminated and of reduced thicknessto improve the cutting action and to` facilitate sharpening lIn the laminated form, the-base is of low carbon steel with a hard steel layer cementedror otherwise attached thereto and providing an `improved cutting edge. My invention. has but few parts, is very'sturdy and practical, and may be used `with either wood or metal.
Other and equally important objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and drawings, but it is pointed out that changes in the size, shape, form, construction and arrangement oi parts is permissible and within the purview of my broad inventive concept, and the scope of the appended claims.

In the' drawingswherein like characters of reference are used to designate like or similar parts* The numeral l designates the handle of my device which may be formed ofv wood, plastic, or other material and4 which has a longitudinal bore 2 extending from its iront` end'tov a point between the ends where it communicates vwith a lateral channel. The handle has a ferrule l at its work end. A cutter head supporting and operating a clamping rod 5 is mounted in the bore 2 and has a threaded inner end 6 on which is carried a nut 'l accessible through the channel 3. The channel is ordinarily closed by a .plug 8. Turning movement of the handle feeds the nut on the rod to adjust the rod longitudinally of the handle. The rod 5 has a beveled head il at its outer end. Mounted on the rod is a cutter head frame I il having a base Il and angularly and outwardly flared side walls I2 which are beveled as at i3; the degree of bevel being determined by the predetermined angular inclination of the blades I4 which are supported on one side on the beveled edges of the frame. These are two op-Y posed blades I4, one extending outwardly a de; sired distance for proper cutting at either side of the frame. The opening I5 in the base I! is countersunk for reversibility of the frame and clamping plate assembly. The beveled head 9 of the rod 5 is flattened at its sides as `at IE and fits into a countersunk squared slot Il in the rectangular clamping plateI I8 which has beveled edges t9 corresponding to the beveled edges I3 :and cooperating therewith to clamp the blades therebetween. The frame has opposed inwardly and arcuately bent fingers Ztl formed on the ends of each of :the side walls l2 which engage the end view of the form shown in shoulders 2l formed by the side recesses 22 in the clamping plate I8 and the shoulders 23 `formed by side recesses 24 in the blades to center the blades and clamping plate and provide a sturdy assembly. The ngers 2U extend beyond the beveled edges I3. As shown in Figures 1, 3, 4, 5, 15 and 16 the blades used with this form are of the laminated type having a low carbon steel body 25 to which are cemented, glued, or otherwise attached hard steel sections 2G to take a razor edge or "a razor blade may be used in lieu of the sections 26.
As `above described, my device yforms a novel, practical and useful scraper, however, it is adapted. for use as a planing tool .by attachment of clamping elements 2'! on the base of the frame i9 by means of rod 29 having a clamping head 5E! and a threaded end 3| on which is a nut 32. See Fig. 6. A planing guide -fraine 33 is attached lby clamping elements 2? to frame I8 and has arcuate side sections 34 connected by opposed planing faces 35 separated by a slot 38 through `which a blade extends as in Figures 1 and 4. One end is extended as as 81 to place the planing surface adjacent the blades. The planing guide frame is reversible as shown in Figure 5. My blades may be of hard steel and made solid as shown in Figures 17 and 18, or may have hard electroplating as at 38 on one side as in Figures 11 and 172, or can be hardened on .both sides as at 39 in Figures 13 and 14. The `types of blade may be adjusted t-o the use of my device under practical working conditions. The form shown in Figures 13 and 14 may have two cutting edges 48, `and since the cutter blade frame is reversible, that is, to place the cutter blade frame outermost with the clamping blade innermost, my device is highly adaptable as to use.
From the foregoing, it is believed that the `objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent, but it is Vagain emphasized that interpretation of its scope should only be conclusive when made in the light of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
1. A scraping tool, comprising a handle, a reversible cutter blade frame having a base and diverging side walls extending from said base,
said side walls being .provided with beveled edges, a pair of blades, one supported on each beveled edge, said blades having shoulders, arcuate iingers on the frame extending from said side walls at opposite sides thereof, the shoulders on said blades engaging said fingers to center the blades, a clamping plate having beveled edges cooperating with the beveled edges of the side walls to clamp the blades therebetween, said clamping plate having shoulders engaged and centered by the lingers from said side walls, a supporting rod means extending through said clamping plate and base for securing the same together and to the handle.
2. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein the arcuate iingers rise from the ends of the frame and extend in advance of the beveled edges of the frame, and wherein the frame is reversible and the blades are supported at an angle to the side wall ,of the frame.
3. The invention as defined in claim 1 wherein the rod is threaded into a nut carried .by the handle to be adjustable lengthwise of the handle and wherein a ferr-ule is provided between the handle and frame.
