Description

(No'ModeL) .W. W. BARNES.
TOY HOUSE.
No. 248,888. Patented Oct. 18,1881.
N vmcns. Plvolo-lllhngrzphrr. wmhm m. 0,1:
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WESLEY W. BARNES, NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES C. SHEP- HERD, OF PASSAIG, NEW JERSEY.
TOY HOUSE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 248,388, dated October 18, 1881.
Application filed July 8, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, WEsLEY W. BARNES, of the city and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Toy Houses, of which the following is a specification.
This toy is in the form of a house with an area in front and a fence and gate. The gate is connected with the front door, so that in opening the front gate the door will be opened, to afigure will be moved to the doorway, and the blinds to the windows will be drawn up, thus affording amusement to children.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional plan view of the bottom part of the toy house. Fig.
I 2 is a vertical section at the line or at, and Fig.
3 is an elevation of the house.
The base or bottom a of the house, the front I), and sides 0 are of any desired size or character, and there maybe a back, d, or this may be omitted.
There is a front door,f, and window 9 to this toy house, and the base or bottom a is extended in front of the house to form an area, and there is a fence, h, and gate k.
The lever l is within the house, pivoted at i. One end is connected by the cord or when with the front door, f,and the other end is connected by the wire 0 to the gate 70, so that the opening of the gate will open the door f, and there is a toy figure at s, so that as the lever is moved the figure will be swung around into the doorway.
The windows are made with stationary imitation blinds at 25, covering the upper halves of 5 the windows in the inside, and there is a hang ing imitation shade, u, behind the windows, in which are openings, and this shade u can be drawn up bya cord connected to the lever passing under a pulley or eye and up over another pulley or eye at the upper part of the house, and descending and connected to the said shade u;
or this connection may be made at the top of the door, so that as the lever is moved and the door opened the shade will be drawn up, bringing the openings in such shade to coincide with the open lower half of the windows and giving the appearance of drawing up the shades.
I claim as my invention l. The combinatiomin a toy house, ofa front door that can be opened, a front railing and gate, a lever, and a connection from the gate to the lever and to the door, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination, in a toy house, ofa front door, a gate, a lever, connections to the door and gate, respectively, and a toy figure moved by the lever, as set forth.
3. Ina toy house, a door that can he opened, imitation shades to the windows, and connec- 6o tions, substantially as set forth, whereby the shades are drawn up simultaneously with the opening ofthe door, as specified.
Signed by me this 5th day of July, A. D. 1881.
WESLEY W. BARNES.
