ATTIJ RN EYS Patented June 21, 1949 UNITE SATfi ATENT QFFICE 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a wickless oil burner which, by its unique structure, provides a hotter flame with the use of less oil.
An object of the invention is to provide a burner wherein the heat is dispersed through the lower part of the stove, therefore giving a greater heat output since less heat will escape through the flue to the chimney, thereby resulting in less smoke.
Another object of the invention is to provide a burner that is simple in construction, durable and economical in use, and eliminates the use of a wick in the burning of the oil therein.
With the above and other objects and advantages in View, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure l is a top plan View of an embodiment of the invention, partly broken away and partly in sections to show the interior part thereof.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1 and Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View of Figure 2.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the burner embodying the invention is generally designated by the reference numeral ID.
The burner II) comprises the circular heat space plate II, which is provided with the upstanding annular flange I2. Engageable about the flange I2 is the circular burner jacket I3 which, at its lower end, is removably secured to the flange I2, by the fasteners I4.
Centrally of the plate II, there is secured thereby by welding I5 or the like, the outer oil ring I6, centrally of which there is formed integrally with the plate I I, the inner or center oil ring H. The plate within the ring I1 is cut away to form the air intake I8. Surrounding the ring I1, and spaced therefrom, is the mixing tube I6 which is provided with the closed top 20 and an open bottom. Secured to the top 26 by a fastener 2|, centrally of the top, is the deflector plate 22. The bottom edge of the mixing tube I9 is scalloped as at 23, and the Wall of the mixing tube is provided with staggered rows of apertures 24.
The plate II, intermediate the mixing tube I9 and ring I6, is provided with opposed alined oil inlets 25 and 26 respectively, which are connected to the oil supply pipe 21.
The jacket I3 has a closed top 28 which, at the center thereof, is provided with the integral stove pipe collar 29.
The mixing tube I9 resting on the plate II between the oil rings I6 and I1 permits some of the oil to flow irom the pipes 25 and. 26 through the scalloped bottom 23 of the mixing tube I9. The oil generates to gas and mixes with air entering through opening I8. This mixture leaves the mixing tube i9 through the apertures 24 therein. The deflector plate 22, having only a three-inch space between plate 22 and deflector plate I I, causes the oil to generate to a higher degree of gas more quickly and places the flame about the mixing tube I 9 below the deflector plate 22.
A hotter flame is produced with less oil, since a greater amount of air is introduced into the mixing tube I9.
There has thus been provided a burner which burns a cheaper grade of oil and which, it is believed, will accomplish the objects of the invention, and it is to be understood that changes in the minor details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
An oil burner of the type described, comprising a circular heating plate, an upstanding flange on said plate, a heat jacket engaging said flange, means for removably securing said jacket to said flange, a central air intake opening in said plate, an oil ring surrounding said opening, a mixing tube having a closed top and open bottom surrounding said oil ring in spaced relation thereto and resting on said plate, an outer oil ring surrounding and spaced from said mixing tube, fuel oil inlet pipes connected to said plate intermediate said mixing tube and said outer oil ring, a deflector plate secured to and overlying the top of said mixing tube, staggered rows of air and gas mixture outlet openings in said mixing tube and said mixing tube being scalloped on the bottom edge to permit inward flow thereunder of some of the oil from the inlet pipes.
