Description

M- TAYLOR HOSIERY June 7, 1949.
SUPPORTER Filed Jam 5, 194e Patented June 7, 1949 applicati s claims.
This invention relates generally to hosiery supporters, and nrorefparticularlyto a'supporter for hosiery combined iwitlrthev leg of anviinderg'- :lientj-z, f-g Hl?, "1'
Usually mens socks are supported by leg encircling gamers; which of necessity-raast be tight enough around the legs tofkeep them frornia'll ing ldownfover.. thecalf oi thelleg Suchg'aters mie;` irnmany. cases,A tightA enough` `to obstruct Aftli'e flow oif `thelvenous bloodupithe ilegs to th'ilfietirt, whichrl`of1course is an undesirableonditienl'di- SJ-igartersfare a separate.accessorylwhichfisoith regarded as a nuisance. While it has been heretofore proposed to oven-come the undesirable features of the leg encircling garter, by providing various kinds of supporters, which attach to the undergarment by pins or the like, nevertheless, these have been generally found unsatisfactory because they not only tend to tear both the underwear and the hosiery, and at the same time present diiilculty in laundering.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a novel hosiery supporter, whereby the foregoing disadvantages are eliminated without sacricing any of the eiliciency of th-e supporter, by combining with another garment a novel supporter having a portion thereof incorporated as a permanent part of the leg of the garment, and a detachable hosiery supporting strap and fastener for use with other garments having a like portion of the supporter permanently incorporated therewith. In that connection a distinctive feature resides in providing the supporting strap with a button which serves the dual purpose of forming an anchor toconnect the strap to the garment and also to receive the clasp for gripping the top of the hose.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter as to several embodiments thereof, and will be more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the invention applied to a garment leg in assembled position.
Figure 2 is also a front view showing the permanently afiixed guide and attaching strip or base ttor the garter strap.
Figure 3 is a perspective view `of the garter strap as it appears when separated from the guide and attaching strip.
Figure 4 is a cross-section view taken along line 4--4 of Fig. 1.
Figure 5 is a front elevation of another form of the guide and attaching strip, and

Figuref isa crosssection view taken alongline f'L-j'n'f, .-fi' :li U :if ,n. sfwn .lil- In its general aspect, the invention includes ,as
Referring to the drawings, and i-lrst with par-- ticular reference to Fig. `2, the device comprises an elongated fabric attaching strip I0 secured longitudinally to the leg II of a. nether garment. by any appropriate means as heretofore indicated. This strip ID is provided with upper and lower transverse webs to provide an upper guide means. such as a top loop I2 and a lower loop I3, the latter having a button holeI4 therein for detachably anchoring the hosiery support or garter strap I5, such as shown in Fig. 3. This strap has one end thereof looped through the base portion of a key-hole clasp I1, and the other end looped through the oase portion of a button I8. Said' button i8 comprises a base I 9, a shank 20, and a head 2l relatively larger than the shank. Y
As best shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the shank 2D of the button is projected'n through the button hole I4 from inside the lower loop I3, so that the button head 2| is exposed outside the loop. When this is accomplished, the'strap I5 becomes anchored to the strip I0. 'If-he strap is then threaded upwardly under the guide loop I 2 and dropped downwardly over the top edge or the loop, so that the key-hole clasp Il dangles adjacent the head 2I of the button. With the two elements of the fastener in this position, the top portion 22 of a sock or the like may be placed over the head 2l, and locked thereon by the small part of the key-hole clasp I1, as shown in Fig. 4.
Thus, there is provideda, novel supporter for hosiery requiring no pins or cloth penetrating teeth, and having no leg encircling straps to interfere with normal blood circulation from the legs to the heart. I
In Figs. 5 and 6, I have `shown a modiiication of my invention, by providing a single strip of fabric 4III" having twopairs of transverse slots 23, 24 and 25, 26 to provide intermediate Webs `2l and "28. The web 21 provides the guide loop I2, and the web 28 provides the anchor loop Il -for strap I5 with its button hole |45.
The strap I5 is applied to the strip- I0 of this omitted? Seite@ 3 form in the same manner as previously explained in connection with the rst form, but as the loops are an integral part of the strip, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, there is less sewing and less cloth in the fabric strip according to this form of embodiment.
Further modications will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it is intended, therefore, that the invention be limited only by the prior art and the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. In a. hosiery supporter, a guide and anchor strip for a detachable hose supporting strap having button head and key-hole fastener elements on each end thereof, said strip being permanently aixed to the leg portion of a garment, upper and lower web portions for receivingportions of said supporting strap, said lower web having a button hole therein adapted to secure the button head portion of the fastener to the strip under the lower web, whereby the strap is held in position for manipulation to support hosiery from the leg portion of the garment.
2. In a hosiery supporter, a strip of fabric sewed to the leg of an undergarment, said strip having two pairs of transverse slots at each endl to thereby provide upper and lower web portions between each pair of slots, said lower web portion having a button-hole therein, each of said webs forming guide loops for a hosiery strap supporter of the button and key-hole clasp type, and said button-hole being adapted to secure the button 4 head of the hosiery strap in the lower web to hold it in position for cooperation with the hose and the keyhole clasp on the other end of the strap.
3. In a hosiery supporter, a combined guide and anchor strip for a detachable hose support ing strap, said strap having mounted on one end a button head and having mounted on the other end thereof a. key-hole fastener, said anchor strip being permanently affixed to the leg portion of Y a garment, and said anchor strip having a button hole in the lower portion thereof adapted to anchor the button head fastener on the strap to the strip, whereby the button head on the said hose supporting strap is held in position I in the button hole of said strip to cooperatively engage within the keyhole fastener, to thereby support hosiery from the leg portion of the garment.
