REVOLVING ATTACHMENT FOR DINING TABLES Filed April 2, 1946 Inventor 59:? C. Ha rizle r- Patented May 17, 1949 REVOLVING ATTACHMENT FOR DINING TABLES Boyd 0. Hartzler, Sharonville, Ohio Application April 2, 1946, Serial No. 659,011
1 Claim.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements and structural refinements in revolving attachments for dining tables and the like, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the character hereindescribed, which may be readily and conveniently positioned on a table top to provide a revolving extension, so to speak, in order to eliminate the necessity of passing dishes around the table in the conventional manner. A further object of the invention is to provide an attachment which may be easily manipulated.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment which is simple in construction and which may be conveniently stored when not in use.
An additional object of the invention is to provide an attachment which will easily lend itself to economical manufacture.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment which cannot easily be damaged.
With the above more important objects in view, and suchother objects as may become apparent as this specification proceeds, the invention consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention, showing the same in situ on a table,
Figure 2 is a cross sectional view of the subject illustrated in Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view, taken in the plane of the lne 33 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a cross sectional view, taken in the plane of the line 4-4 of Figure 2.
Like characters of reference are used to designate like parts in the specification and throughout the several views.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, the invention consists of a disc-like base 5, adapted for positioning on a suitable table 6 and provided for this purpose on the under side thereof with a pad of felt, or the like, I, to prevent scratching the table top.
The base is provided in the center thereof with a bore 8 and a counter-bore 9 and an upstanding pivot bolt ID is rotatably positioned in the bore 8, as will be clearly apparent from the accompanying drawings.
2 A hearing race designated generally by the reference character ll, comprises a plurality of radially extending arms I2, the same being arranged in substantially cross-shaped formation, with the intersection thereof rotatably positioned on the bolt ID. A rotatable roller I3 is mounted at the outer end of each of the arms l2 on a suitable screw M, the several rollers engaging and running on the base 5 The upper end of the bolt I0 is provided with a mounting flange l5 and a circular table top I6 is secured to this flange, by means of a plurality of bolts I1.
It will be noted that the table top l6 runs freely on the rollers [3, as will be hereinafter more fully explained.
An adjusting nut I8 is positioned on a screwthreaded portion at the lower end of the bolt ill, the nut being receivable in the aforementioned counter-bore 9, in order that the same does not project beyond the lower surface of the base 5.
When the invention is placed in use, the attachment is positioned on the table 6 as already set forth, and the adjusting nut l8 should first be tightened sufiiciently to provide proper friction between the base 5, the race H and the top l6, whereby the three stated components are held together.
This frictional contact, however, should not be too excessive and it will be found that the table top l6 may be freely rotated upon the bearing race H, and the advantages of the invention thus become clearly apparent.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as my invention is:
A revolving attachment for dining tables and the like, comprising in combination, a disc-like base adapted for positioning on a table, an upstanding pivot bolt rotatably positioned in the center of said base, a plurality of radially extending arms connected to said bolt, a rotatable roller mounted on the outer end of each of said arms, said rollers running on said base, a flange at the upper end of said bolt, a circular table top mount- 3 4 ed! upon said flange and running on said rollers, Number Name Date arid an adjusting nut at the lower end of said 913,110 Eccleston Feb. 23, 1909 bdlt. 944,153 Smith Dec. 21, 1909 BOYD C.
