Description

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO WILLIAM A. STROTHER, OF LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA.
LUBRICATING COMPOUND.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 246,985, dated September 13, 1881. Application filed August 10, 1881. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I WILLIAM A. STROTHER, of Lynchburg, in the county of Campbell and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lubricating Oompounds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved lubricating compound of that class which is used by tobacco-manufacturers to prevent the tobacco from adhering to the metallic pressplates or to the mills; and it consists in the finely-powdered soapstone, five pounds. (Ootton-seed oil or lard-oil may be substituted for the olive-oil.) To prepare the compound I first melt the spermaceti in a vessel of sufficient size to contain all the ingredients. I next add the oil, and finally the soapstone, and stir constantly until cold.
This preparation I have found by repeated tests to be cheaper and more effective than the compounds now in use. I would say that the proportions of the ingredients may be somewhat varied. Especially may, in the cold season, the proportion of spermaceti be reduced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States The herein-described compound, consisting of oil, spermaceti, and soapstone, in about the proportions and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM A. STRO'IHER.
Witnesses:
R. KIDDER TAYLOR, J. OWEN HANVEY.
