This invention relates to tatting shuttles.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a tatting shuttle on which a spool of tatting thread can be bodily placed on the shuttle when the two parts of the shuttle have been separated from one another and the spool fitted over the projection on the one part whereby to eliminate the necessity of having to wind thread upon a tatting shuttle thereby wasting time,
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a tatting shuttle wherein there will be little breakage of thread as the thread is placed on the shuttle by a spool wherein injury to the fingers will not be so frequent as the thread does not have to be wound upon the shuttle and wherein a quick change of colors can be made whereby eliminating the necessity for having separate shuttles with different color threads thereon.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a tatting shuttle which can receive a spool of the thread, which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture and eihcient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational View of the tatting shuttle.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the tatting shuttle.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the shuttle taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a transverse cross-sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig. 2.
Fig, 5 is a transverse cross-sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. l. I
Fig. 6 is a transverse cross-sectional view taken on line 6--6 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the figures, it represents a bottom part of the tatting shuttle to which there is connected to the interior thereof an inwardly extending sleeve I I having slits I2 extending iron the upper edge of the same and into holes I3 of different size to accommodate different size tatting thread.
Extending upwardly from the center of the sleeve II and fixed to the part I8 is a central internally threaded sleeve portion I i adapted to receive a threaded connecting screw I5 having a pivoted handle ring or loop I3 thereon. With the screw I5 removed a spool of thread ii can be slid downwardly over the sleeve portion I l and into the sleeve II. This spool I? can retain thread of any color or size and the end of the thread is extended through a slit I2 and hole I3 2. and outwardly over the endof the part II].- The spool can rotate so that the thread can'be fed from the shuttle. i l
Adapted to fit'over the part II] is a part 2! forming the opposite side of the shuttle and having an extended portion 22 over which the thread passes. Screw I5 is contained on the part 2I and its handle I6 lies within a depression or recess 23 in the top of the part 2|. When the screw is in place as shown in Fig. 3, part 2| is secured to the part I0.
On the inner face of the part 2| is a depending portion 24 adapted to engage with the outer end of the sleeve I I to retain the part 2| on the part H3 in the proper spaced relationship to permit the rotation of the spool on the sleeve I l. The loop It will bear upon the surface of the depressed portion 23 to fix the depending portion 24 upon the outer end of the sleeve I I.
At the opposite sides of the part 2! are dependent exterior portions 21.
After the thread has been used up or should another color of thread be desired, the screw I5 will be loosened from the sleeve I4 and the part 2| separated from the part III. Thereafter the old spool can be removed from the part I0 and the new spool reinserted. By placing the parts back together again the shuttle is again ready for use.
The sleeve portion II is formed of two parts, each of which have longitudinally extending side flanges 29 with the flanges of one part engaging with the flanges of the other part.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A tatting shuttle comprising two separable parts, a sleeve formation on one part adapted to receive a spool of thread when the other part has been separated therefrom, said sleeve portion having an opening through which thread may be extended, and means for securing the other part of the shuttle to the one part to retain the spool in place therewithin, said means including a threaded connecting screw secured to one of said separable parts, an internally screw-threaded receptor member secured to the other of said separable parts, said connecting screw being adapted to seat in said internally screw-threaded receptor member, and cooperating stop means at tached to each of said separable parts to hold the 3 parts so as to permit said spool to turn freely when secured in place in said sleeve.
2. A tatting shuttle comprising two separable parts, a sleeve formation on one part adapted to receive a spool of thread when the other part has been separated therefrom, said sleeve portion having an opening through which thread may be extended, and means for retaining the separable parts together, said means including a sleeve portion on the one part having internal threads, a screw connected with the other part and having a handle portion exteriorly thereof adapted to be turned and engaging with the threads of the sleeve of the one part, and stop means on the other part engaging with the end of the sleeve portion of the onepart to hold the parts such that the spool may turn freely in the sleeve portion when the screw is tightened to hold the parts together.
3. A tatting shuttle comprising two separable parts, a sleeve portion on one part, said sleeve being formed 'of two parts, secured together at longitudinally extending side flanges, said sleeve being adapted to receive a spoolof thread when the other part has been separated therefrom, said sleeve having an opening through which thread may be extended, means for retaining the separable parts together, said means including a sleeve portion on the one part having internal threads, a screw connected with the other part and having a handle portion exteriorly thereof adapted to be turned and engaged with the threads of the sleeve of the one part, and stop means to hold the parts so that said spool may turn freely when in place in said shuttle, said stop means including a depending portion on one of said separable parts which engages said. longitudinally extending flange portion of said sleeve portion.
