vCURRY-COMB.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,526, dated August 30, 1881.
Application filed May 2B, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CAREY A. MANKER, of Red Oak, in the county of' Montgomery and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Curry-Combs, ot which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a combined currycomb and brush.
The invention consists in a novel construction ofthe comb and its handle and the frame and handle otl the brush, and a novel mode of connecting the comb and brush, whereby they may be used either alternately or simultaneously, or maybe disconnected so as to be used separately, as hereinafter more particularly described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of my combined comb and brush in position for alternate use. Fig. 2 is an edge view ot' the same. Fig. 3 is a face view, showing the comb and brush in position t'or simultaneous use. Fig. 4 is a detail View.
Similar letters ot` reference indicate corresponding parts.
The frame ofthe brush is composed of a strip of metal. A, and a plate, B. The strip A runs in a straight line from the end a to the point c2 to form one side ot' the handle. From the point a2 it runs around the plate B, bent at right angles at the corners ofthe plate B, until it reaches the point c3, where it is bent outward parallel with the rst straight portion and forms the second side of the handle. To these two sides are attached, by riveting or in any other suitable manner, two pieces ot' wood or other material to form a handle, H, of convenient shape and size to be grasped in the hand. The face A and plate B are secured together. To the plate B are attached the bristles to form the brush.
The comb is composed of a metallic strip, C C2, and a series of bars, D, provided with teeth. The portion C forms vthe handle of the comb,
and to the portion C2 the bars D are attached by means of rivets c.
The handle C is provided with a notch, f, for engagement with a rivet, g, in the handle ot' the brush, (see Fig. 4,) which rivet forms the pivot or center ot'oscillation for the comb. The plate B is provided with slots s for the recep tion ot' the strip C2 and the bars D.
The comb is connected to the brush by engaging the notchfwith the rivet g. When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. l the strip C2 and bars l) are in the slots s, and the comb and brush are back to back and may be used alternately.
By swinging the comb to the position shown in Figr the comb and brush may be used simultaneously by grasping the handle Hin one hand between the comb and brush. By swinging the comb to the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2 both the comb and brush may be cleaned, and the dirt and hair removed therefrom.
B v turning the handle C at right angles to the handle H the parts may be disconnected and the comb and brush used separately.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent- 1. In a combined curry-comb and brush, a brush having its frame com posed of the slotted plate B and the strip A, the said strip being bent around the plate and having its ends bent parallel to form the sides of the handle, substantially as shown and described.
2. ln a combined curry-comb and brush, the combination, with the slotted handle H of the brush, provided with the rivet g, ofthe handle C of the comb provided with the notchf, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
CAREY A. MANKER.
