Description

J. MURRAY.
TOY WAGON.
Patented Aug. 30, 1881.--
. 2 INVENTOR:
WITNESS ATTORNEYS.
N. PETERS. Phow-Ulhngnpher. WasRmgwlI. 11c.
Ilnrrnn STATES PATENT JOHII MURRAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOY WAGON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,412, dated August 30, 1881,
Application filed January 24, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MURRAY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy Wagon, of which the following is a specification.
Figure l is a sectional side elevation of my improvement, taken throughthe line aa, Fig. 2; and Fig. 2 is a plan View of the improvement.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object ofthis invention is to furnish toy.
wagons carrying figures arranged to receive motion from the advance of the wagons.
The invention consists in constructing a toy wagon witha figure of a driver havingahinged body, and connected by a rod with acrank formed upon the forward axle, so that the movement of the wagon will give the figure the appearance of whipping the horses; and also with a figure of a boy connected with a crank formed upon the rear axle, so that the movement of the wagon will give the figure the appearance of j umping up at the rear end of the said wagon, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents the wheels, B the axles, G the body, and D the drivers seat, of a toy wagon.
To the drivers seat D and the forward endboard. of the wagon are attached the legs of a figure, E, representing a man. The body of the figure E is hinged to the stationary legs, and one of the hands of the said figure E grasps the reins, and the other hand holds a whip.
To the lower part of the body of the figure E is pivoted the upper end of a rod, F, the lower end of which is pivoted to a crank, G, formed upon the forward axle B, so that the (No model.)
movement of the axle will cause the body of the figure to vibrate between an erect and a forwardly-inclined position, as shown in dotted and full lines in Fig. 1, giving the said figure the appearance of whipping the horses.
Upon the rear axle B is formed a crank, H, to which is pivoted the feet of a figure, I, representing a boy. The legs and body of the figure I are rigidly connected, but its arms are hinged to the body, and its hands are represented as grasping a rod, J, attached to the rear end of the wagon body 0. By this construction the figure I represents a boy hanging onto the rear end of the wagon, and the movement of the wagon gives the figure the appearance of jumping up at the rear end of the wagon.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a toy wagon, the combination, with the forward axle B, having crank G, of the connecting-rod F, and figure E, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the movement of the wagon will give the said figure the appearance of whipping the horses, as setforth.
2. In a toy wagon, the combination, with the rear axle B, having crank H, and the wagonbody (J, of the figure I, having hinged arms, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the movement of the wagon will give the said figure the appearance of hanging on and jumping up at the rear end of the wagon, as set forth.
