Description

.arcE-n &, 1949c c. J. MAREK 9 9 COLORED FLAME PRODUCIKG WICK FOR CANDLES I Filed Sept. 27, 1946'.
Patented Mar. 8, 1949 COLORED FLAME PRODUCING WICK FOR CANDLES Charles J. Marek, Raymondville, Tex.
Application September 2'1, 1946, Serial No. 699,659
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to wicks designed for use in the manufacture of wax candles or the like, the primary object of the invention being to provide a wick which while burning, will produce flames of various desirable colors.
An important object of the invention is to provide a wick of this character which will not tend to increase the size of the flame or the rapidity of the burning of the candle.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a wick for a candle of a particular color, the wick having means to provide a color flame to match the color of the candle.
With the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevational View of a wick, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a plan View of the candle equipped with a Wick constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the wick.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a wick illustrating chemical supporting strands as extending transversely therethrough.
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating the chemical supporting strands of the wick as disposed at oblique angles with respect to the side of the wick.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 indicates the main wick of a candle, which is of the usual and well known construction.
In carrying out the present invention, strands, constructed preferably of sisal or similar noncapillary attraction fabric, are used, the strands 6 being extended transversely through the wick 5 in spaced relation and at right angles with respect to each other, as clearly shown by Figure l of the drawing.
On the ends of these strands 6 are heads 1 of a suitable chemical, which when burning, throws ofi a colored flame, the color of the flame being determined by the nature of the chemical which may be selected to produce a flame matching a candle of a predetermined color.
Because the strands 6 are constructed of sisal,
2 it will be seen that the wax forming the body of the candle will not be absorbed by the sisal strands, and the flame produced by the burning of the candle will be of a normal size.
It might further be stated that the sisal strands will be of such lengths that the chemicals at the outer ends thereof will be so spaced from the wick that the wick will not be hardened or crystallized due to the action of the burning chemicals, which would impair the burning qualities and efficiency of the candle.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figure 5, the wick 5 is supplied with sisal strands 6 that are disposed at oblique angles with respect to the side of the wick to increase the burning qualities of the heads I, which are formed of suitable chemical material to produce a colored flame.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A candle wick construction comp-rising a body portion, strands of non-absorbing material extending transversely through the body portion in vertical spaced relation with each other throughout the length of the wick, the successive strands of non-absorbing material being disposed at right angles with respect to each other, and heads on the ends of the strands of non-absorbing material, the heads comprising color flame producing material when burning.
2. A candle Wick construction comprising a body portion, strands of non-absorbing material extending transversely through the wick in vertical spaced relation with respect to each other, the ends of the strands of non-absorbing material terminating appreciable distances from the body portion, and heads on the ends of the strands of non-absorbing material, the heads comprising color flame producing material when burning, the body portion and strands being completely encased in wax in the formation of a candle.
