This invention relates to preformed neckwear of the simulated four-in-hand type.

Many attempts have been made to provide such neckties but these have not been sufiiciently satisfactory in construction and appearance to meet the demand for neckwear combining attractiveness and ease of use.

In accordance with my invention, I provide neckwear, the knot establishing portion of which comprises a relatively stifl, bendable blank having tapering side edges so that when those edges are in abutment a hollow body is established in the form of an inverted, truncated cone. The blank has a decorative cover which I provide with a tongue disposable in the upper part of the body to conceal its interior and the means locking the tapered edges in abutment. Secured to the blank are members to which the ends of the neckband may be attached.

I interconnect the abutting edges by means of a strip of relatively stiff stock secured to the interior of the blank as by adhesive. I may also attach to the blank, adjacent its tapering edges, suitable laces which may be tied together to establish the body and as the edges of the blank may be uneven, I prefer to add finishing strips thereto and such strips may include a reinforcement.

Outer and inner tail simulating members are united at their upper ends and before the body is completed the tail members are secured to the body as by adhesive. Preferably, I provide the united ends of the tail members with an anchor which protrudes sufficiently therefrom to embed its extremities in the blank when the body is completed.

In accordance with my invention, I am thus able to provide neckwear, the knot establishing portions of which are uniformly accurate and which enable the tail simulating members and the neckbands to be firmly secured thereto ensuring that long service and attractiveness in appearance may be economically combined.

In the accompanying drawings, I have shown an illustrative embodiment of my invention from which these and other of its novel features and advantages Will be readily apparent.

In the drawings, I have indicated generally at 5 a simulated knot in which the upper ends of the outer and inner scarf or tail members 6 and l are secured. At 8, I have indicated an adjustable neckband, the ends of which are secured to eyes 9 anchored to the knot 5.

In accordance with my invention, I establish the knot 5 by providing a blank 10 with a textile cover I l which generally has the same pattern as the scarf or tail members 6 and 1. The blank I0 is of relatively stiif, bendable stock such as canvas or buckram, and has tapered side edges so that when the blank I0 is shaped to bring those edges into abutting relation, a hollow body is established in the form of an inverted, truncated cone. The eyes 9 are mounted on loops I2 preferably secured to the relatively stout blank I0 by blind eyelets l3.

In practice, the blank I0 is shaped to .bring its tapered edges into abutment thereby to establish the hollow body and is held in that position by a strip 14 of relatively stiff and bendable stock adhesively secured to the interior surface of the blank [0 adjacent the abutting edges. If desired, lacings [5 may be secured to the blank l0 adjacent its edges and the body held assembled by tying them together.

As the edges of the blank l0 are relatively rough, I prefer to employ finishing strips l6 for the tapered edges and may employ such to hold metal or other suitably stiif reinforcements ll against these edges thereby to ensure that the edges of the finished blank are sufiiciently even so that they abut each other closely in the completed tie.

The textile cover II is preferably cemented to the outer surface of the blank I 0 and includes a tongue I8 adapted to be disposed in the body to conceal its interior and except for the tongue, the cover II is dimensioned so that its edges may be turned over the edges of the blank I0 and secured to its inner surface.
