Description

E. V. ONSA OHAI'R I Filed July 17', 1946 March 1, 1949.
INVENTOR. [/eaxwr 1 Oxzsa Patented Mar. 1, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 4 Claims.
This invention relates to a seat or chair designed particularly for a shampoo chair.
The invention has for its salient object to provide an inexpensive, light but comfortable seat or chair particularly designed for supporting children in position for a shampoo.
Further objects of the invention will appear from the following specification taken in connection with the drawings which form a part of this application, and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective elevation of a chair constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the chair shown in Fig. 1, with the back in elevated position;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the back in its depressed position; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation taken substantially on line 4-4 of Fig. 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.
The seat or chair illustrated in the embodiment of the invention shown was designed particularly for supporting a child in the position for receiving a shampoo and this chair comprises side rods l and I I having their ends bent downwardly and connected by cross rods l2 and I3. In order to prevent the chair from slipping, and particularly when used in a bath tub, the cross rods l2 and I3 are provided with suction cups IS.
The back of the chair comprises side rods and 2! which are connected at their upper ends by a cross rod 22, to the central portion of which is secured a head rest or pad 23.
On each of the rods l0 and II there is adjustably mounted a spring clip having a downwardly extending lug 26. These lugs have pivoted thereto respectively, links 21 and 28, to the lower ends of which are pivoted at 29 the lower ends of the rods 20 and 2| A seat of flexible material, such as canvas, is provided with laterally extending portions 30 and 3| which are looped around the side rods l0 and II and with extensions 32 which are looped around the upright side rods 20 and 2|. The upper end of the seat or flexible material has formed therein a recess 35 below the head rest 23 and also has upwardly projecting extensions 36 which are secured to the cross rod 22.
A belt or strap 31 is secured to the rod 2| and coacts with a buckle 38 carried by the rod 2| to strap in the child or user of the seat or chair.
The back of the chair may be disposed in upright position, as shown in Fig. 2, or may be downwardly depressed or disposed in the inclined position shown in Fig. 3, this adjustment being obtained by sliding the spring clips 25 forwardly on the cross rods l0 and H.
In order to carry the water away from the neck of the child or person supported in the seat or chair, a tray may be mounted on the cross rod 22 by means of hooks 4|.
From the foregoing specification it will be seen that a simple, practical and inexpensive seat or chair has been provided and that this chair will be well adapted for use in supporting a child in position to have its hair shampooed.
Although one specific embodiment of the invention has been particularly shown and described it will be understood that the invention is capable of modification and that changes in the construction and in the arrangement of the various cooperating parts may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A shampoo chair comprising a pair of side rods having downwardly extending ends and cross rods connecting said side rod ends, an upright frame comprising side rods and a cross rod at the upper ends thereof, a clip adjustably mounted on each of said first named side rods, a link connecting each clip to one of the second named side rods, and a flexible sheet connected to said two sets of side rods and to the upper cross rod.
2. A shampoo chair comprising a pair of side rods having downwardly extending ends and cross rods connecting said side rod ends, an upright frame comprising side rods and a cross rod at the upper ends thereof having a head rest thereon, a clip adjustably mounted on each of said first named side rods, a link connecting each clip to one of the second named side rods, and a flexible sheet connected to said two sets of side rods and to the upper cross rod.
3. A shampoo chair comprising a pair of side rods having downwardly extending ends and cross rods connecting said side rod ends and having suction cups thereon, an upright frame comprising side rods and a cross rod at the upper ends thereof, a clip adjustably mounted on each of said first named side rods, 2. link connecting each clip 3. to one of the second named side rods, and a flexible sheet connected to said two sets of side rods and to the upper cross rod.
4. A shampoo chair comprising a pair of side rods having downwardly extending ends and cross rods connecting said side rod ends, an upright frame comprising side rods and a cross rod at the upper ends thereof, a clip adjustably mounted on each of said first named side rods, a link connecting each clip to one of the second named side rods, a flexible sheet connected to said second set of side rods and to the upper cross rod, and means carried by said upper cross rod for deflecting water used in the shampooing of the occupant of the chair.
