Description

Feb. 22, 1949. H. F. ALL| V 7 2,462,161
HOSE SUPPORTER Filed Aug. 84 1946 INVENTOR. Howard E Cal/2's,
ATTD RN EYS Patented Feb. 22, 1949 4 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HOSE SUPPORTER Howard F. Callis, Norfolk, Va.
Application August 8, 1946, Serial No. 689,304
My present invention relates to an improved hose supporter of the type adapted to encircle the ankle of the wearer inside the sock and formed with upstanding stays engaging the upper extremity of the sock.
The garter being located on the ankle of the wearer will not need to be as tight as if the garter were located for instance above the calf of the leg, and being at the smallest portion of the leg will not be inclined to slip down, as calf garters often do.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of my invention according to the best mode I have thus far devised but it will be unv derstood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appendedclaims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the supporter of my invention shown in position and supporting a sock.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a top plan view.
Figure 4 is a detail View of the clip meanson the stay engageable with the garter.
Figure 5 is a detail view of the upper end of the stay.
Figure 6 is a detail view of a modified form of the stay.
Figure '7 is a top plan view of the garter and the modified stay secured therein.
Figure 8 is a side elevational view thereof.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like characters indicate like parts, I have illustrated the hose supporter of my invention embodying a garter band 2 of resilient material and adapted to encircle the ankle of the wearer indicated as A and located inside the sock S.
At opposed points on the band 2 I utilize thestays 6 of relatively stiif and light weight material formed with an outward curve as 8 and terminating upwardly in the enlarged portion I0 the upper edge of which is serrated at l2.
The lower end M of the stays are split and reversed as at US to form the spaced clips [8 to receive the garter band therein, and one edge of each clip portion is serrated as at 20.
The stays are detachably mounted on the garter band and the band is slipped over the foot to position as shown on the ankle. The sock is then put on and the upper edge of the sock is engaged with the serrated portion of the upper 1 Claim. (Cl. 2303) 2 extremity of the stays and the hose or sock will thus be secured in proper position upon the limb of the wearer.
In Figures 6, 7, and 8 I have illustrated a slight modification of the stay wherein the lower portion of the stay is enlarged as at 22 and serrated as at 24. This form of the stay is secured to the garter by stitching and preferably where the overlapping ends 4 of the garter are secured.
From the above description of the structure of my invention it will be apparent that the supporter of my disclosure will properly and comfortably support the hose of the wearer and the embarrassment of the slipping garter will to a large extent be avoided. Furthermore, with the entire supporter concealed within the hose the unattractive display of the usual support will be avoided.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentis: A
A hose supporter comprising an ankle encircling resilient band adapted to be applied to a wearers ankle inside a sock on the wearer thereof, hose engaging stays extending upwardly from said band, the lower ends of said stays being T- shaped in formation and having depending serrated portions at the outer ends of said T-formation to engage and retain said stays on said band, the upper ends of said stays being bowed outwardly away from the leg of the wearer, and enlarged portions having serrations on the edge thereof formed on the upper end of the stays and adapted to engage under the inturned upper edge of said sock to retain said sock in a smooth fixed position on the ankle, and leg, of the wearer there- HOWARD F. CALLIS.
