The present invention relates to an apparatus for permanently waving the hair by the so-called cold process. In such process the hair is made soft by means of a chemical solution and is then in its soft condition wound upon a curler. After remaining in. the wound condition upon the curler for a suitable length of time, the wound hair is treated with a second chemical solution the object of which is to neutralise the first chemical solution and to fix or retain the hair in the curled condition.
An object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus in which all portions of the wound hair are uniformly subjected to the action of the fixing solution.
Another object of the invention is to utilize compressed and ozonised gas for introducing the fixing solution into the hair curl. By this means .rapid and extensive neutralisation of the softening solution is effected, while, in addition, the ozone has a disinfecting action on the scalp and pleasantly covers or eliminates the frequently unpleasant smell of the softening solution.
According to the present invention these drawbacks are avoided by employing hollow curlers provided with perforated walls and by forcing the fixing solution from the inside of the curler through the perforations and the hair to the outside using as a pressure medium for forcing through the fixing solution, compressed and ozonized air or oxygen. The softening solution is so chosen that it reacts With the ozone of the fixing solution in such a manner that it is neutralised and that the hair is fixed.
The apparatus according to the invention comprises: a source of compressed gas, an ozone generator, a container for a liquid, perforated hollow curlers closed at one end, and a spraying device for supplying the fixing solution under pressure to the curler.
The accompanying drawings show apparatus for carrying out the invention.

Referring to the construction shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1, I indicates a compressed gas container which contains compressed air or oxygen and is connected'by a flexible tube 2 to an ozone generator 3. connected by a flexible tube 4 to a vessel 5 containing the second solution (treatment agent). This vessel is hermetically closed by a suitable lid. As the compressed gas coming from container l is ozonized at 3 and comes at 5 into contact with the second solution, a portion of the gaseous ozone is dissolved in the second solution. The ozonized second solution and the ozonized compressed gas pass through a flexible tube 6 to a spray device 1 of known construction and can be discharged through nozzle 8. The spray device i is provided with a valve operable by a handle 9 so that liquid and gas may be discharged at will.
In the construction of Fig. 2, a compressor I0 is used instead of a compressed air container. To the compressor I0 is connected an ozone gen erator 3 which in turn is connected by flexible tube l 6 to a sprayer I9, 20, 2i of known. construction having a hollow handle 20 adapted to receive a container filled with the second (fixing)solution.
The first (softening) solution may consist of distilled water containing a certain amount of thioglycolacid and alkaline substances and the second (fixing) solution may consist of distilled water with an addition of acid. Both solutions are known.
Figs. 3-6 show two constructions of curler rods. In the construction of Figs. 3 and 4. the curler rod M has an axial passage in extending from one end of the rod to a point near the other end. I In the middle portion of the rod ill upon which the hair is to be wound, the passage Id communicates with the exterior surface of the rod by radial passages II. the ends of which are connected by longitudinal channels l2.
In the construction of Figs. 5 and 6. the passage I!) communicates with the exterior by radial passages '13 of substantial length.
Fig. 8 shows a practical embodiment of the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 3, in which the various parts I to 8 are mounted upon a portable frame 22 carried upon rollers 23.
In operation, the nozzle 8 is inserted into the open end of the bore ill of the curler rod Hi, and the second (fixing) solution (treatment agent) is caused to pass through the passages ll, l2, or l3, respectively, and the hair curl previously treated with the first (softening) solution. The
The ozone generator 3 iswhole thickness of the hair curl is thus thoroughly treated and all parts of the hair curl are fixed.
It will be understood that the improved apparatus may be modified in various respects without departing from the scope of the invention. Instead of the sources of compressed gas referred to, any other suitable sources may be used, for instance, a hand or foot operated pump.
Having thus described the invention, whatis claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is:

3. Apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said spraying device is provided with a nozzle for insertion into the open end of said tubular curler to introduce ozonised fixing solution into said curler.
