'This inventionis concerned with a'bedrail f-astener, brace and caster and "spring support of v a very practical, durable, simple and economical -structure' which may be 'made substantially from asingle lengthof -flat bar material'andwhich is easily applied in its place of use --and effectively serves the purposes for whichit is designed.

An understanding of the invention and of a preferred structure embodying the same may be had from thefollowing description taken in connection withthe accompanying drawing, in which,

The bed to which the present invention is applicable may be of a conventional structure having head and foot boards and side rails of usual construction. The head or foot board, which may be indicated at I, each have corner posts 2 at each vertical side edge thereof, and horizontal side rails 3 extend between the posts of the head and foot boards at each side of the bed to provide the bed frame.

With my invention an open frame made from fiat bar stock is used at each corner of the bed. A length of the flat bar stock is formed with an intermediate section 4 which is designed to be placed against and secured to the inner side of the head or foot boards at each corner of the bed frame, from which a section 5 is turned at right angles bearing against the adjacent side of the corner post 2, section 5 being again turned at right angles to provide a scection 6 which extends outwardly from and is parallel to and spaced a short distance from an inner side of the post 2 as shown in Fig. 1. The sleeve at its lower end portion is interiorly threaded to adjustably receive a cylindrical sheath fl for 'the'upper end of the vertical stem l8 of the caster l 9. In the installation section 4 of the bracket is brought against the inner side of the head or foot board I, with the part 5 against the adjacent side of the adjacent corner post 2, and wood screws 20 pass through said sections 4 and 5 into the head or foot board and post 2, respectively. The end portion of the bedrail 3 which is to be connected with the bracket is located against the outer section l3 and screws 2| passed therethrough into the side rail. An elongated bolt 22 is passed through an opening in me section l2 and screwed into a screw threaded opening through the section 6. By tightening the bolt the adjacent end of the said rail is brought snugly against the side of the post 2, and by reason of the angular disposition of the tongue [4 which is moved through the opening I5 the end of section 6 is brought to and pressed into firm engagement against the innerside of the side rail 3 providing a strong rigid and sturdily braced connection.

The bed spring which is used, for example, of a box character with one of the fastener, brace and support structures at each corner of the bed frame, is placed at its corners against the upper sides thereof. For movement of the bed over the floor it may be elevated by suitable adjustment of the casters, as shown 11 Fig. 3, to lift the lower ends of the posts 4 above the floor; and after the bed has reached the position desired the casters may be lowered for the lower ends of the posts to rest upon the floor, as is evident.

The structure described is very practical, simple in form and economical to produce and is readily installed in place. Four of them may be sent with a bed from the factory or other place of manufacture, either separate from the head and foot boards and the side rails, or two may be secured at proper positions to each the head and foot board, whereupon the installation may be completed by driving the screws 2| into the side rails and tightening the screw at 22. Any discrepancies in exact location of the holes which are bored in the side rails 3 to receive the screws 2| are readily compensated for by the adjustment provided by the screw 22.

The invention is defined in the appended claims and is to be considered comprehensive of all forms of structure coming within their scope.

I claim:

1. A construction as described made from a single length of metal and including a section adapted to be located against the inner side of a head or foot board and a second section adapted to be located against the inner side of a side bedrail, said second section having a free end and a tongue extending therefrom, and said first section having extending therefrom a short section at right angles thereto from which a second short section extends substantially at right angles and having an opening therethrough for the passage of the tongue, said frame being completed by intermediate portions integral with and between and connecting said first mentioned sections and including a further section extending inwardly at right angles from the second of said first mentioned sections, and an elongated headed screw passing through the last mentioned section and threading through the second of said short sections.

2. A construction containing the elements defined in claim 1, and a caster adjustably mounted for vertical adjustment secured to and extending downwardly from the frame at an inner portion thereof.

3. In combination, a bed having a head board and a side rail located at right angles to each other, said head board at a vertical edge thereof having a vertical post against which an end of the side rail is adapted to bear, an open frame having sides located against the inner side of said side rail and head board, means securing said sides of the open frame to said head board and side rails respectively, said open frame having connecting portions between said mentioned sides extending outwardly at the corner between said side rail and head board, thereby providing a support for a corner of a spring adapted to rest thereon, said frame having end portions coming together at the corner between the side rail and said post, one end of the frame having an opening therethrough and the other a tongue passing through said opening, and manually operable means mounted on the frame for forcing the end of the side rail against the adjacent side of the post.

4. A construction containing the elements defined in claim 3, and a caster adjustably mounted for vertical adjustment secured to and extending downwardly from the frame.
