Application October 11, 1946, Serial No. 702,815
This invention relates to garment cases and more particularly to a case which can be readily supported at the rear of the front seat of an au tomobile, to the end that the contents thereof will be conveniently located, and accessible to occupants of the back seat of such vehicle.
An important object of the invention is to Provide a garment case which will fit snugly against the back of the front seat of an automobile, utilizing room which is ordinarily not utilized and wherein the case is provided with carrying means whereby it can be removed from the vehicle easily.
Another object of the invention is to provide a garment case wherein a removable rack is provided for supporting coats, pants and various other garments and wherein various articles such as shoes, brushes, combs and like personal objects can be conveniently kept and readily reached when needed.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a front elevational View of the case.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view.
Figure 3 is a back view of the case.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a section taken substantially on line 6-4 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a front elevational view with the door opened.
Figure 8 is a rear elevational view showing the rear door opened.
Referring to the drawings, the case consists of side walls 9, ID of upwardly tapering form, the same being bridged at their upper ends by a narrow top Wall H and at their lower ends. by a broader bottom l2.
Numeral l3 denotes a front wall having a ver- 1 Claim. (Cl. 190-19) tically elongated rectangular shaped opening in i which a door [4 is mounted and supported by hinges IS. A suitable key operated lock and handle fastening means It is provided for this door l4. The inside of the door is provided with hangers l1, l8, l9 and 2D for supporting a mirror, combs, scissors, whisk brooms, finger nail files and various other personal needs. On the floor I2 is an open front shoe box 2| which lies between the wall [3 and a garment rack generally referred to by numeral 22.
The rack 22 consists of a coat hanger 23 having a hanger hook 24 which is disposed through an eye 25 depending from the bottom of the top wall It and a pair of depending leg members 26, 26, extending downwardly from the ends of the hanger 23 and being bridged at vertically spaced intervals by rungs 21 over which pants and other pieces of garments can be disposed.
Other items can be placed on the floor l2 between a rear wall member 28 and the lower portion of the rack 22.
Access to the interior of the case can be obtained through the back of the case, there being a short vertical wall 28 extending upwardly from the bottom l2 and to this is hinged, as at 29, a back door 30 which has a handle 3| at its intermediate portion, and suitable securing means between this door 30 and the top I l or the side walls 9, l0 canbeprovided.
The top wall II has a bail type handle 32, whereby the case can be conveniently carried.
The upwardly tapering construction of the case permits the case to be readily positioned behind the front seat of an automobile where it will be out of the way of occupants, of either the front or rear seats.
The case can be manufactured of any desired material and can be attractively decorated.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape; size and materials may be resorted to without departing :lrom the scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A garment case comprising a narrow vertically elongated box-like structure having upwardly converging front and rear walls, each provided with a closure therein, said closures extending downwardly to a point above the bottom of the box-like structure, to define a well in the boxlike structure for containing loose articles, a handle on the top of the box-like structure, a hanger element on the bottom side of the top of the boxlike structure, a garment hanger in the box-like structure suspended from said hanger element and provided with side leg portions depending into said well, one of said closures being provided with a, handle whereby the box-like structure can be lifted in cooperation with the handle on the top of the box-like structure.
