Another object of my invention is to provide a construction of fastener grip in theform of tongs, the jaws of which are normally-spring pressed together for gripping a fastener and in which the .jaws may be readily spread to receive, guide, grip and/or release a fastener in performing a nailing operation. Still another object of my invention is to provide an improved construction of fastener grip in which a pair of spring pressed tong-like jaws are spreadable within predetermined limitsfor receiving, gripping, guiding and/or releasing fastenerssuch as nails, brads, tacks,-1etc.,.in performing a nailing operation. 7
Still another object of my invention is toprovide a construction-of tongs for gripping a fastener between a pair of relatively narrow jaws which may be introduced into extremely cramped space in which there is very little clearance for holding the nail, brad, tack or staple in an angularposition for performing anailing operation. 5 A still further object of. my invention is to pro: vide a construction of tool formedby a pair of relatively slendertong-like resiliently tensioned arms, one of which is curved to substantially embrace the other and'which terminates in aposition forming an abutment for limiting the spreading relation of said tong-like arms. r a
Still another object of my invention isto.pro' vide a construction of fastener gripxincluding a pair of slender operating arms therefor in which said arms are yieldably spring pressed together and one of said arms shaped to provide a supporting hook or extension handle for the device.
Other and further objects of my invention reside in the structural arrangement of. fastener grip as set forth more fully in :the specification hereinafter following by reference to the accompanying drawings in which:

My invention is directed to an inexpensive and efficient construction of tool formed by a pair of relatively narrow coacting handles crossed adjacent the ends thereof and pivoted to provide a pair of preformed coacting jaws for gripping and holding a fastener such as a nail, brad, tack, etc., with the tool grasped in one hand while wielding a hammerwith the other hand for driving the nail, brad, tack, etc. The handles of the tool are formed in a very special manner wherein one of the handles terminates in a position within the curvature of the other of the handles. A curved portion of one handle serves as a limiting stop for a spreading operation of the first mentioned handle. Spring means are provided between the handies for normally maintaining the jaws in a gripping position for gripping a nail, brad, tack, etc.,

Referring to the drawings in detail reference charactersl andtZ designate the coacting arms of a tong1ike tool which are flattened at la and 2a to cross each other at the pivotal position 3at which they are pivoted by rivet member 4. The arms land 2 cross each other at the pivotal position 3 and terminate in slender jaw-like portions lb and 2b. The slender jaw-like portions lb and 2b abut each other in contacting faces [0 and 20. These abutting faces are shaped to receive the nail or staple to be gripped. A groove corresponding to the shape of the nail or staple to be gripped 7 is provided in each of the abutting coacting faces lo and 20. This groove is angularly disposed as represented more clearly in Fig. 5 by reference character ld. The groove 2d is semi-cylindrical in section and similarly the coacting groove Id is semi-cylindrical in section so that by the conjoint abutting relation of faces [0 and 20 a fastener is gripped between the abutting faces of the tool in an angular-position properly aligned for nailing. i

A tool for gripping and guiding a fastener for performing a driving operation, comprising a pair of pivotally mounted arms terminating in coacting jaws, each having recessed abutting coacting faces, said faces operating to grip and support a. fastener in driving position, one of said arms being formed on a curve extending substantially around the end of the other of said arms and terminating in a flattened abutment directed toward said last mentioned arm and providing an abutment for restricting the movement thereof and spring means extending between said arms for tensioning said arms and normally maintaining said coacting faces in closed coacting relation.
