The entrance of the =members2fi and 29*through the hair or around the hank of hair selected to storm the curl: is facilitated "by'pushing the portion tfl'trelative toward the portion '28 such aszby gripping these two members between the thumb and. forefinger, whichmactiona will spread the forendsrof the members 20' and 29 one from the other. Iii/other words; the; natural :grip- 3 will be to hold the pin by the members l8 and 28 so that the pressure thereon is readily exerted to initially position the pin.

In the form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 4-6, the pin has a central area portion 30 from which diverge forwardly the fingers 3| and 32 in substantially the same plane as that of the zone portion 30. These fingers have their outer ends curved upwardly slightly to facilitate entrance of the curl thereunder. From the rear of the zone 30, the material is bifurcated to merge into the members I8, l9, and on the one side and 28 and 29 on the other side, duplicating the like numbered elements described in the first form. Therefore, the only difference between the two forms resides in the formation of the forward upper clamping members. In any event, it is desired that this top clamping portion of the pin have a lateral effective width suflicient to extend beyond the side faces of the

members

20 and 29 appreciable distances in the proportions as indicated in thedrawing.

While I have shown and described the invention in the best forms as now known to me, it is obvious'that mechanical changes may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I therefore do not .desire to be limited to those precise forms beyond the limitations which maybe imposed by the following claims.

.l. A hair curl pin comprising a pair of hair gripping members normally lying side by side;

an upper member. extending in part at least laterally across'over the said'j pair of members; and means yieldingly interconnecting said upper member with rear end portions of said pair of members; whereby said pair of members may yieldingly, compressibly straddle a hank of hair adjacent the scalp and said upper member compressibly retain a curl of hair extending from said hank in a flattened condition over said pair of members; said pair of members being normally pressed one -towardthe other and rear end portions thereof'being normally spaced one from the other whereby squeezing together of those rear end portions will rock apart the forward ends of 'means yieldingly. interconnecting said upper member with rear end portions of said pair of 'members; whereby said pair of members may yieldingly, compressibly straddle a hank of hair adjacent the scalp and said upper member compressibly retain a curl of hair extending from said hankin a flattened conditionpver said pair of .members; said pair of 'members'being normally pressed one toward the other and rear end portions thereof being normally spaced one from the other whereby squeezing together of those rear end portions will rock apart the forward ends of said pair of members; said interconnecting means comprising laterally spaced, substantially a-rcuate extensions of said pair of members, upper forwardly turned ends of which extensions connect with said upper member; said pair of members having shoulders at said Spaced 4 rear end portions to serve as fulcrums for said rocking apart of the pair of members.

3. A hair curl pin comprising a pair of hair gripping members normally lying side by side; an upper member extending in part at least laterally across over the said pair of members; and means yieldingly interconnecting said upper member with rear end portions of said pair of members; whereby said pair of members may yieldingly, compressibly straddle aihank; of hair adjacent the scalp and said upper member compressibly retain a curl of hair extending from said hank in a flattened condition over said pair of members; said upper member comprising a portion extending forwardly of said interconnecting means and therefrom by laterally extending branches.

A hair curl pin comprising a pair of hair gripping members normally lying side by side; an upper member extending in part at least laterally across over the said pair of members;- and means yieldingly interconnecting said upper member with rear end portions of said pair of members; whereby said pair of members may yieldingly, compressibly straddle a hank of hair adjacent the scalp and said upper member compressibly retain a curl of hair extending from said hank in a flattened conditionover said pair of members; said upper member comprising a portion extending forwardly of said interconnecting means and therefrom by laterally extending branches; said branches divergingone from the other forwardly and outwardly from-said portion, and having upturned outer ends." 1 1 51. A hair curl pin comprising a pair of hair gripping members"normally lying side by side;

an upper member extending in part at least laterally across over the said pair of members; and means yieldingly interconnecting said upper member with rear end portions of said pair of members; whereby said pair of members may yieldingly, compressibly straddle a hank of-hair adjacent the scalp and said upper member compressibly retain a curl of hair extending from said hank in a-flattenedcondition over saidpair of members; said upper member comprising a portion extending forwardly of saidinterconnecting means and therefrom by laterally extending branches; said branches comprising outwardly extending loops, the rear legs of which merge into said portion and the front legs of which return to merge into a forward portion aligned with the first said portion. r

A hair curl pin made out of fiat stock to have a substantially flat central area section, bifurcated forwardly therefrom to have a pair of diverging upper fingers within substantially the same plane as that of the central area, and bifurcated to the rear of that area to form two fingers turned around, downwardly and forwardly thereof to extend forwardly under said area and 7 beyond said upper fingers-in central alignment ly thereof to extend forwardly under said area and beyond said upper fingersin'central alignment therebetween to'be in yielding contact one with the other;said under fingersbeing spaced apart within those portions leaving said central area and those forwardly extending portions, whereby those spaced apart sections may be pressed one toward the other to spread apart the forward ends of those under fingers.

8. A hair curl pin made out of fiat stock to have a substantially fiat central area section, bifurcated forwardly therefrom to have a pair of diverging; upper fingers within substantially the same plane as that of the central area, and bifurcated to'the rear of that area to form two fingers turned around, downwardly and forwardly thereof to extend forwardly under said area and beyond said upper fingers in central alignment therebetween to be in yielding contact one with the other; said under fingers being spaced apart within those portions leaving said central area and those forwardly extending portions,
