Each ofthe ribs tapers from the groove outwardly to a rounded nose to facilitate swinging of the stile 4 into interlocking engagement with the support 5 without liability of marring or damaging the ribs.
The supports 5 and stile 4 are provided with transverse bores I3 and I3', respectively, for the reception of a suitable pivot pin I4 and preferably the bores I'3 and I3 are disposed slightly below the center of the pivot section 1 and pivot recess I2, as indicated by the line CC, Figs. 6 and 7, for ease in operating the sash to closed position without damage to the interlocking ribs 8, 9, I and II.
To prevent rattling of the sash andto weatherproof the pivot section and recess against the passage of air, moisture or dust when the sash is closed, I provide a friction plate I for the pivot section which may be formed of resilient material such as metal (see Figs, 3, 4, 6, 9 and 11). The friction plate is preferably of a size to cover the pivot section 1 of the support as shown in Fig. 6 and preferably is attached to the support along one edge thereof so that the body of the plate is biased. outwardly from the support into tensional engagement with the sash stile 4. This is advantageously accomplished by providing a flange I6 along one edge of the plate I5 which maybe anchored in a, slot I1 in the support adjacent an outer face thereof.
The plate I5 is adapted to be tensioned in interlocking engagement with the support 5 as well as the stile 4, when the sash is closed, and for this purpose the inner edge of the plate I5 may be headed convexed to provide a bead I8 adapted to be pressed into a groove I9 in the adjoining face of the stile 4. The plate I5 may be formed with one or more beads, or cups 20 adapted to be pressed into a groove 2| in the support 5 to provide a smooth action on the sash stile during opening and closing of the sash as Well as to prevent undue wear on the pivot sections 1 and I2. Further weatherproong of' a pivot section mai7 be effected by the provision of a ferrule or bear* ing 22 on the plate I5 surrounding the pivot I4V and preferably this ferrule 22 is of a length suflicient to extend into the pivot opening I3 of the stile and provide a metal bearing for the stile 4.
From the above it will be seen that the invention improves sash construction of my prior patentfrom the standpoint of simplicity of construction, economy of manufacture and assembly as Well as providing a more effective seal against the passage of air, moisture and dust around the pivot section when the sash is closed.
When the sash is in closed position with reference to the supports the cooperating groovedribs of the supports and stiles 8--I0 and B-Il Will closely interfit making a weathertight joint along the meeting edges above and below the pivot section. The pivot section is effectively weatherproofed by the plate I5 which has one edge anchored in the slot I'I adjacent the outer face of the support 5 while the opposite edge has an oppositely offset portion in the form of a bead I8 pressed into a groove I9 adjacent the inner face of the sash stile 4. When the sash is swung to open position as indicated by the dotted line position shown in Fig. 2, the plate I5 springs outwardly from the support 5 acting to frictionally hold the sash in open position.
Obviously the invention is not to be restricted tothe details shown and described as the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
I claim:

A window sash construction comprising spaced supporting members and an intermediate sash member pivoted thereto, said supports and the stiles of said sash member having opposed interlocking grooved ribs extending from opposite ends thereof to a point short of the center thereof to provide therebetween a pivot section surrounding the point of pivotal support, a sheet metal plate mounted in said pivot section and having a single thickness longitudinal" flange along one edge thereof embedded in oneof said pivoted members and an opposed laterally offset portion along an opposite edge thereof adapted to be pressed within the marginal sides of the other of said pivoted members when the sash is in closed position relative to the supporting member,

A window sash construction comprising spaced supporting members and an intermediate sash member pivoted thereto, said supports and the stiles of said sash member having opposed interlocking grooved ribs extending fromV opposite ends-thereof to a Vpoint short` of the center thereof to. provide therebetween a pivot section surrounding the point of pivotal support, a sheet metal plate mounted in said .pivot section and yhaving a longitudinal flange along one edge thereof embedded in one of said pivoted members adjacent an outer face thereof and an opposed laterally offset portion along an opposite edge` thereof presenting a convexed surface adapted to be engaged by and pressed within the marginal sides of the other of saidpivoted members'` adja cent an inner face thereof when vthe sash is in closed position relative to the supporting Imembers. 4

A window sash construction comprising spaced supporting members and an intermediate sash member pivoted thereto, said supports and the stiles of said sash member having opposed interlocking grooved ribs extending from opposite ends thereof 4to a point short of the center thereof to provide therebetween a pivot section surrounding the point of pivotal support, and Weatherproong means for the pivot section attached along one edge thereof to one of said members and formed with a plurality of protuberances adapted to be presssed into a groove in the plate-carrying member.

A window sash construction comprising spaced supporting members and an intermediate sash member pivoted thereto, said supports and the stiles of said sash member having opposed interlocking groovedribs extending from opposite ends thereof to a point short of the center therethe stiles of said sash member having 'opposed interlocking grooved ribs extending from opposite ends thereof to a point short of the center thereof to provide therebetween a pivot section surrounding the point of pivotal support, and
weatherproong means for the pivot section comprising` a sheet metal plate formed with a pivotreceiving opening and a pivot for said supporting and stile member passing through the opening in said plate and disposed at a point removed from the center of the pivot sections of said member.
