Description

Nov. 23, 1948. T. QJDEAN 2,454,690
DOOR HOOK I Filed June 18, 1945 Patented Nov. 23, 1948 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a door hook.
An object of the invention is to provide a fastener for doors, particularly screen doors, which will hang down closely against the door, when unhooked, and will not be liable to become engaged between the door and door casing, when the door swings closed, and sear the door frame and door casing.
Hooks for screen doors are usually fastened to the door frame by means of an eye, and when unhooked often hang across the eye in horizontal position or swing outwardly toward horizontal position, and when the door swings to closed position the hook will be caught between the door and casing and soar and injure them; also when the hook hangs across the eye it is in position to, and liable to, tear theclothing of, or injure, the person passing through the doorway. It is an object of the present invention to provide a door hook which will not be subject to the above objections.
Another object is to provide a fastener of the character described that cannot be easily disengaged.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following specification which is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a side view of the hook in inactive position.
Figure 2 is a top plan view showing the hook engaged, and
Figure 3 is a side view showing the hook encaged.
Referring more particularly to the drawings the numeral l designates the shank of a hook having an eye 2 at one end and the hook 3 at its other end.
Screwed into the frame 4 of the screen door 5 there is an eye 6 which has a downwardly turned anchor arm 1.
Attached, at one end, to the arm I there is a 2 pull spring 8 whose other end is secured to the hook shank I.
On the door casing 9 there is an eye I!) through which the hook is engaged to secure the screen door in closed position. When so engaged the spring 8 will be under tension so that the hook cannot be readily disengaged by a burglar, or other unauthorized person, from the outside, but can be disengaged from the inside when it is desired to open the door.
When so disengaged the spring 8 will pull the hook downwardly alongside the door frame so that it will not engage between the door frame and casing to injure them when the door closes and so that the hook will not project out to injure the person, or clothing of one passing through the doorway.
The drawings and description are illustrative merely, while the broad principle of the invention will be defined by the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A fastener for doors comprising, an elongated hook shank having an eye at one end and a hook at the other end, an eye formed with an extended threaded shank, said eye being provided with an extended arm disposed at substantially right angles to the plane of the eye, said eyes being linked together and a pull spring one end of which is connected to the free end of said arm and whose other end is connected to said shank of the hook.
