CLOTHES PIN.
No. 245,464. Patented Aug. 9;1881- M I 12m imm r N. PETERs PMIo-Lilho mph" Wm ngiuu D C NITE STATES PATENT FFICE.
CHRISTIAN W. EBY, OF HAGERS'IOWN, MARYLAND.
CLOTHES-PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 245,464, dated August 9, 1881.
Application filed June 13, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN W. EBY, of Hagerstown, in the county of Washington and State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Pins and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompan yin gdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of thisspecification.
This invention relates to an improvement in clothes-pins 5 and it consists of a wire clamping-pin constructed as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of my improved clothes-pin. Fig. 2 is an edge view, and Fig. 3 shows the pin in position upon a line.
The pin is composed of a single piece of suitable metallic wire, which is formed into the spring clamping-rings aa,the ends of the wire forming spring-arms Zr b, by which the pin is handled.
(No model.)
By pressing the armsb I) together the clamp in 'g-rin gs a a are caused to open or recede from each other, and may thus be employed to secure clothes upon a line, as by releasing the 0 arms I) b or removing the pressure by which they were held they will fly apart and cause the rings a a to clasp firmly any articlesplaced between them.
The device is simple, durable, and efficient 5 in operation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A clothes-pin composed of a single piece of 40 metallic wire, having spring clamping-rings a a and arms I) b, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed mysignature in 4 5' presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN W. EBY.
